What Could Have happened?
Our 5 year old border collie mix passed away suddenly, and we are at a loss wondering why. I fed her and our 4 year old cocker spaniel outside, (as she was an outside dog) at 10:30 am, she was standing on the sidewalk and seemed fine. Hubby came home at 4:30 pm and was concerned she didn't greet him like always. We found her in her dog house with head in a pool of blood and bloody spatters else where. We have no idea what could have taken our sweet girls life so suddenly, 6 hours! Does anyone have a similiar story? Or an idea of what may have happened? We are grieving in Texas

Gosh, how horrible!!! What a terrible thing to come home to...I can't imagine what that must have been like...my heart goes out to your family.
The only things that come to mind are: trauma (hit by car), attack (nasty animal/human), or some kind of vascular disease or perhaps tumour that suddenly reared its head. Either way, so terribly sad. Perhaps you could ask your vet to do an exam(post mortem) to help ease your mind about what happened...it may help to get some answers as to the cause. I'm so very sorry....and I hope you can get some resolution...

OMG,what a terrible experience,so sorry
She might have had a problem that you did not notice, because she was an outside dog...but,I have never heard of anything like this. Are you sure she did not get hit by a car and then crawled home to die??

She healthy
she was a big healthy girl...70lbs had given birth to 8 on april 31. I played with her every morning and checked on them constantly during the day. I think now it's funny I hadn't heard a sound or barking from her. she was playful night before and greeted her daddy. She was in a fenced in yard. Had shelter..she was in her doghouse when he found her. It's like something happened out of the ordinary in 5 years...she had blood comming out her mouth and spots of it elsewhere upon investigation..but nothing sharp was in yard for her to chew, and grass had just been mowed. We are blaming ourselves, esp me...I should have looked out more often...and nothing will bring her back...but an answer might help the healing

If she was fenced in and no one had access to the yard then maybe it was a medical issue. (please keep in mind I'm not a vet and I'm just going on what information/experience I have)...I have seen this happen a few times in seemily healthy young dogs...a undetected tumour or vascular issue that leads to a serious bleed. There's nothing to be done about it, no way to prevent it, often the dog shows no signs at all of trouble until the last minute, and usually it's discovered in a similarly tragic way to your own. The pups I saw died peacefully, quickly and quietly. But your vet could tell you what happened. At least you would know for sure, and your mind/heart could rest a little easier.
I can't tell you enough how bad I feel for you....
