I was recently walking to a friends home when this little dog ran to me and started to bite my pant legs and tear at my shoes. As he was a little dog, I was able to kick him off. Anyone know a better way to deal with this tyoe of situation.
I certainly did not want to hurt the dog, but I do not want to be bitten/bothered as well. Thanks M |

I'd try standing still for a moment and NOT looking the little tyrant in the eyes.
Hopefully he'll go away.... doog |

I have found (having a large dog that seems to be a target for agro dogs) that most dogs will respond to swear words ( i know it is not nice just hope no one is around to hear) spoken loudly and with a tone of control, and they often back off. I have a theory that this is due to the way we raise dogs and sometimes get angry at them. If you imitate what the dogs owner may do when angry the dog will often back down at the memory or reminder. But tried and tested seem to be- be submissive, head down, slouch sholders and dont make eye contact and i always cross the road when you see it coming to see if you are its target and if all else fails i find a handful of gravel from the road side is very effective when thrown (we did this in our street to stop dogs chasing, had a big bag of gravel in front seat of car and when they chased threw it - they soon stoped. AND MAKE SURE YOU TRY TO FIND OWNER and remind them of their responsibilities.

sorry to laugh but HAHAHAHAH
This happened to me before and so I find it funny as well.
I barked and growled and the little tyrant and it took off yiping! Also if you have a bottle of water on you dump it on them, most little dogs hate water dumped on their heads! Don't worry about that I had a Rottie jump attack me when I was pickin my God Daughter up from school one day....she (my God Daughter) climbed up my back to where she was near sitting on top my head in terror while the dog was drooling goobers all over my top. Try that balancing act.... Needless to say a good shove with the knee worked. (stupid owners) Just a big dumb funny dog but scared the hell outta kids. Luba
