neutered cat humping??

I think my neutered boy Angus tried humping my spayed girl Finn. I was laying with Finn, purring away quite relaxed when Angus jumped up for some lovin' too. He straddled her (she was laying on her side) and started to lick her head and ear (which isn't uncommon), but then his backside started gyrating. Is this normal cat behaviour? I've never heard of neutered males humping. Finn wasn't amused and promptly squirmed away. Has anyone else experienced this sort of behaviour from their cats?

I had 5 cats and they were all fixed. 3 girls and 2 boys. Anyway, the 2 boys kept humping each other and I can tell you it had nothing to do with reproduction of their species....it was a dominance issue. They would never hump the girls just each other. My feral was the worst he would bite samson on the neck and start humping. Now my dog who is also fixed tries to hump my cat...again dominance. I really think it does happen even when they're neutered or spayed, in my doggies case

that makes sense, he seems to always be doing subtle things to show dominance, not burying his poop,etc..., he was definitely being a little less subtle tonight!

I've had many neutered toms who would hump, and not just other cats, but blankets, pillows etc.

At the moment I have a 4 year old neutered boy, and he'll hump girls or boys - whoever will hold still long enough. He just doesn't care where he gets his fun!

This is so enlightening, I have had 3 different male cats throughout my life and have never witnessed this before and you are all telling me your cats do it all the time. So strange, I always attributed this behaviour to dogs. Man, this is just too funny.

OMG Lucky, that is too funny. Even funnier is that the cat in your pic that is receiving looks very eerily like Finn, our Receiver tonight. Here they are: Angus the Giver on the right and Finn the Receiver on the left.

Boys!! I love Angus' expression!

My cat is very lonely (and horny) without his little squeezebox, since Jerry got adopted.

All that's left here is my cat's mom, and even HE wouldn't dare go there!

I have three neutered males, around 2pm every day,Chico gets the crazies, runs around the house wiggling his little butt enticing Rocky.
Rocky is up to the task right away
Not before he start chomping on Chico's neck, does Chico start calling for help..MOOOM,he's hurting me!!
I split them up and 2 seconds later they'll be right at it again,my 3 boys have never met a female,so maybe they think it's the norm

I'll definitely be keeping a closer eye, maybe I can get some video footage, there is probably a very untapped opportunity here for some people who want to make some money. lol

the hump

Hi,,yes have seen this in cats and dogs,,,and actually had two male hamster who would engage in this "playfull" ? activity. I think it okay as long as it stays friendly with no fighting, and I must say also that Dolphins in the wild and also some of Apes/Chimps also engage in this. Tellmekitty

I had just my two cats for many years. A neutered male Himalayan and a spayed female calico. Every day (I'm serious) EVERY day, he would get on top and do his thing. He lived to 19 yrs.

Tellmekitty,
actually almost all apes/monkeys engage in
sex for fun.
Bonobos (pan pygmaeus), the dwarf chimp
engage in an average 45 counts
of sexual events each day - making them the
most active of all great apes.

A neutered male cat can continue to perform
for his whole life, though many wont.

Yes, and unlike other primate troops, they have almost NO violence or conflict among themselves.

Kinda make ya think.

I have 6 cats, 5 neutered males, 1 spayed female. I have one male who loves to hump his "blankie". And the female...well when she gets mad, will just squat and pee where she is. Has anyone tried the plug in phermones (spelling?) With all these cats, there can be alot of tension in their world especially in the winter. Help!!!

As I have said before, my neutered bunny used to try to hump the dog ( a beagle), my socks, blankets, (the cat was smart and too quick for him, lol). Finally, I bought him a Beanie Buddy- Nibbles - about the same size as him and he was a happy camper.

This is not at all unusual.

I bought Feliway (plug in pheremone) from the vet after our boy was peeing on our bed, the vet thought maybe he was stressed since there was no physical reason why he should be peeing, it seemed to work (combined with having him neutered), but way too expensive to continue to buy the refills, and hard to find at most pet stores. I think the only store that sells it is Petsmart, most vets carry it but charge double the price for it. Both cats seemed to hang out more in the room with the plug in pheremone, so I think they liked it. Maybe it could help with humping too, if it's stress related humping. By the sound of it, most of these kitties just wanna get off! The plug in pheremones might enhance the mood.

All I have to say is thank goodness that I don't have the only humping cat out there LOL. We have two dogs 65lbs and 124lbs and a siamese f/s 7yrs this past Nov I fostered a male siamese 12wks old, he would jump up on the sofa to clean his bellylegs and his little pinky would be hanging out (I must say this is the first time I had ever seen that from a cat and I have cats all my life), he would then jump down and mount my f/s grabbing her by the back of the neck as expected she would get pissy and hiss/spit/growl and run away then acouple days of that going on he then moved onto my 65lbs dog. I had him neutered in Jan and he's still doing it, not so much to my dog as to f/s and she has gotten to the point where she cannot stand him always jumping on her, I thought it had to do with me waiting to have him neutered as with past boys I had them done at 12wks(not so easy this time to find a vet who would do early s/n). I haven't had a kitten in 16yrs wow are they crazy

Badger has a big old wool sweater he romances. Sometimes he gets so excited he falls off the bed. He doesn't try it on the other cats. Good thing, he'd probably squash them.

What about 26lb Charlie here, who is just a loooove machine? The objects of his affections (male, female - he doesn't care!) are powerless and I'm sure they feel very violated.

Well, this is a new (and somewhat disturbing) side of cats I've never known.

Maybe this could spawn a new trash/sensationalistic TLC show:

"Cats: The Dark Side!" or maybe

"Cats: Sexual Predators or Just Happy Humpers?"

W4F,awww it's nothing disturbing, with Rocky and Chico, they"fool"around the same time every day
It's not like they actually"do"it,we robbed them of their jewels and if they enjoy a little pretend mating that's ok with me,as long as nobody gets hurt.

Lucky,that is a beautiful cat,is he in a shelter?

No. He and his sister (nearly as big as he at 18 lbs) were found jammed into a taped up cardboard box in a park about 1 1/2 years ago.

They were taken to a vet, and had approximately one hour until they would be killed.

Debbie raced out and brought the terrified cats home, and they've been there ever since and are spoiled rotten! Adoption attempts failed, since people only wanted Maine Coon Charlie and not his plain, shy grey sis.

i think just like people some cats have a sextual perferance for the same sex i use to have have a male cat that would ingore females and go insane with interest whenever he saw a male cat. It does cause violence though because the cat who is getting humped usually doesnt like it and will turn around and fight
