Saying Hello

Good day everyone.
I have a 7year old Boxer who is recently having trouble with leaking urine. It has occurred once in the past however has been an isolated incident. This time is has been happening more frequently and has lasted two days now. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and is it normal. It seemed to start after she was fixed so we thought the first time was related to that however now that it's happening again we are concerned.

First off, welcome to the board.

It sounds like your girl may be having trouble with what's usually referred to as 'spay incontinence'. Spayed females often experience a weakness of the bladder muscles that result in leakage.

The good news is that there are meds out there to control the problem. Both DES (a form of estrogen) and PPA (phenylpropanolamine) are very effective. Talk to her vet and ask about the possible side-effects of both meds. We use PPA with Lil Belle, but I know a lot of people who also have great luck with DES.

ETA: you should have your vet check her out first, though, to make sure that's what the problem is. There are other conditions that might cause leakage, but 'spay incontinence' is a pretty common one...

Oh...and got any pics of your boxer to share with us?

Smile Big Thanks

Thanks you so much for your reply, We are going to take her to the vet tomorrow Monday however as i said it has been two days now and we weren't sure if it might be something serious. In the past it has only been one episode (she came in from outside laid on the couch and when she got up it was wet) but that was it for the day. This time it seems like every time she lays down there is a wet spot for the past two days.
I have tones of pics however i'm new to the site and don't know how to post them....any help would be appreciated.

When you hit 'Post Reply', a 'Reply to Thread' window comes up. If you scroll down, you'll see a button that says 'Manage Attachments'. Click on it and you'll be able to browse to images on your machine and upload from there. The images have to be resized to under 100KB, though.

Hi there *waving*

Welcome to the forum! She is gorgeous, so magestic looking. And I'm like Hazel I love that window shot!

I hope the vet can fix her leaking problem. I didn't know that could happen to animals.

Debbie
