Hello!
What a great site!!! I don't have much time right now, but I do plan on visiting and participating here often. I have two lab-cross girls that I love dearly. One is 15, that's Pepper and one is 9, that's Sandy. Both dogs have fat lumps, or as the vet calls them fat tumors. Neither dog is over weight. Sandy has recently been found to have high steroid count in her blood, so cushings in suspected. However, I seriously started questioning commercial dog food and I suspect a lot of these problems are from that. We buy very expensive dog food, Natural Balance and Canadea. My vet recently recommended Medi-Cal. On looking at it all...I started making my own dog food...and guess what? Sandy's steroid level has come down a bit in just one week of home made food! I use brown long grain rice, I buy meat on special (chicken, liver and lots of beef) and I add carrots and peas. Already as well as the steroid level coming down, both dogs do not have that awful gas problem and have more energy and just seem to 'feel better'. My husband used to be a herdsman...and he told me stories of rendering meat...
Anyway, got to go...hope to have time to drop in soon and read your replies. Again, I am so glad I found this site! Leasa |

Welcome to the board, Leasa!
I've heard so many stories about the amazing benefits of raw--wish we had a big enough freezer to do it! Congratulations on getting your girl's problem under control! Oh, and we'll definitely need some pictures of all your furbabies. It's not absolutely required as a condition for membership, of course, but we'll harrass you unmercifully until we get pics of your babies to oooooo and ahhhhhh over! yes, we can be a demanding bunch

Welcome to the forum Leasa.
That's good that making your own dog food has helped your girl with getting her steriod count down. Pics are a must for sure. |

Thanks for the welcome!
I'm not at home right now so I can't post the pics yet, but I will! (after I get my son to show me how that is)
Next week will be more 'normal' for me and I fully plan to participate on this forum. 'Till then thanks and take care! Leasa |

My two babies.
Well it took a week, but I finally found a few uninterrupted minutes to come back here to look around. I posted (took me a while to figure it out) the pics of my two babies, Pepper and Sandy. Leasa

Hello and welcome!
My darling choc Lab passed away last October at age 14....your darling Pepper reminds me of my girl. sniff. sniff. Anyway, mine also had lots of those "lumps". Most gave us no trouble at all.

hurts eh?
I'm sorry about your dog leaving you. My Pepper is 15 and has stage 4 heart failure so she's a slow girl. Some days are really good for her and she hasn't shown any suffering except for her stiffness which she does get a pain pill for when needed. I know when she leaves me I will ball my eyes out for days. L

Thanks. My Cleo was a slow girl too and that was just fine.
I had been in heart failure myself, and had open heart surgery 3 years ago, so Cleo's sweet, quiet and patient nature was perfect for my recovery. We were able to have her pass away at home and she is buried beside her Airedale boyfriend....but it was so hard. She was a very special girl. Kiss and hug your doggies every chance that you get.

Hi there Welcome to the forum!
Your fur kids are adorable!! There is a food forum here too where people talk about making their own pet's food. I have learned a lot from there. Debbie
