Question regarding cat diarrhea

Hi everyone,

my question has to do with my 3 year old kitty who recently started to have diarrhea. This has only been for the past 2 days but I am concerned.

She is still eating, but while she usually finishes her dinner, now there is always a little left over. She is also drinking as normal, it is only the diarrhea, which has led to more use of the litter box than normal. (when I arrived home today there was a lot more poop than usual to clean out).

Other than that, she seems alright. Maybe a little bit lethargic, but she'll still get up and play with anyone who offers...so, do you think there is anything wrong, or am I just worrying a little too much? (I LOVE MY CATS!)

Does your cat go outside, or has she had contact with any outside cats?

No lucky, completely indoors, and she lives with me at school and is the only cat in the house. No outside contact that she could possibly get.

In that case, try fasting her for one day. Then give her small portions of boiled chicken breast, several times a day. Measure the water to make sure she is drinking.

If that fixes the problem, then gradually start adding her usual food to the chicken, until there is no more chicken in the food.

If that doesn't fix the problem, the next step is the vet.

It is a good sign that she is still eating, so this is probably not an emergency. Keep a close eye on her behaviour and moniter her water intake closely, though... cats are very good at disguising illness. If you are concerned that she isn't drinking enough water, do a pinch test for dehydration. Pinch (not too hard!) a piece of loose skin and let it drop back. It should return to its normal position immediately or after less than a second. If it takes a few seconds or does not return, the cat is dehydrated and should see a vet.
