Mucous in poo

Hi everyone, new to the sight, and will post personal info a bit later. Just want to see if anyone has an opinion to my situation. My 14 weeks old weimaraner, Cooper, appears to have loose stool with some mucous with a green tinge. It's not with every bowel movement, but ocurs almost daily. Often he will have normal stool. There is no blood, nor does he appear sick in any way. He has a healthy appetite and his activity level is normal. Plus, he appears to be growing at a normal rate. We're visiting the vet on Fri., but am curious to know if anyone else has had this experience. Also, has anyone had experience with coccidiosis. thanks.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! We expect pictures here! and as you can tell some of us are more demanding than others ! I just wanted to say I have a chocolate lab that went through the same thing for awhile and it did require a ver visit for antibiotics and some Metronodazole?? sorry for the spelling....he was tested for parasites, and giardia and had neither! It cleared up from the antibiotics and has not returned.....symptoms were identical to yours! I also incorporated a food change not long after and he has been fine since...he is no longer on vet prescribed food ...he eats the Orijen Fisf Formula! he loves it!

Best of Luck!

Cindy

Same here, I changed their food and they are doing better. But you need to take a poop sample to your vet to clear out parasite first.

We have occasional bouts of coccidiosis here...some years seem worse for it than others (none so far this year, knock on wood ). Usually, it responds well to the meds. Has your pup been diagnosed with coccidiosis?

We've had parasites, infections and food allergies/ sensitivities which all resulted in mucous poop (). The first trwo are relatively easy to treat, the third requires some detective work with an elimination process.

Mucous is usually an indication of an irritated colon which can be due to various reasons, parasites, bacteria, fungus, virus, IBD (food sensitivities) etc. The only way you are going to know exactly what is causing it is to take your pooch and a stool sample into a vet for parasite testing and get some bloodwork done.

Pictures are always welcomed on this forum so if you can post some we would really appreciate it.

Mucous poop

I had a foster pup last year with the same symptoms. Turns out he had Giardia. Make sure when you bring the stool sample you ask the vet to check for Giardia because often they don't.

Good luck
