Hello to All

My name is Larry and my 10 year old Miniature Pinscher is Princess. We are from Bangor, Maine.

I just found out, last week, that she is diabetic and has cataracts, she is now 90% blind.

If anyone has any words on the subject please let me know.

Thank you, Larry

Sorry I can't be of any help. Just wanted to say welcome. I am sure someone will come along with some knowledge on this subject.

Hi Larry, and welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about Princess's diabetes. I don't have experience with canine diabetes, but I do have a ton of knowledge on the feline version. Have you started giving her insulin?

Here are some links for you to check out:

Canine Diabetic with Cataracts.

Hi sugarcatmom,

Thanks for the reply.

I think that feline cataracts must be close to the same as canine.

As for the links you sent me I'll check them out now.

Thank you, Larry

Actually, cats rarely get cataracts as a result of diabetes, whereas unfortunately it's a fairly common occurrence with dogs. Even though my cat has been diabetic for over 5 years, his vision is perfectly fine.

Here is some info for you on canine cataracts as they relate to diabetes:

You might want to get a referral to a veterinary opthamologist on this issue. As for the Nu-Eyes drops, I'm not familiar with them but the old adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" might be applicable. You'd think that if curing cataracts was as simple as putting in some eye-drops, then why is surgery still the norm? You could always ask the opthamologist about them.

Canine Diabetic with Cataracts.

Yes sugarcatmom I have started her on insulin. I not sure of the markings on the needle, but I draw three lines down from the top. I give it to her every twelve hours.

Thanks, Larry
