brenda, why would the dogs get sick from crows,or grubs,do they eat either?
the crows, whom i love, should not cause any danger to the pins other than that they are noisy at times. i don't know about grubs, but they are under the ground

The grubs are ripping up the grass ? Usually small animals like skunk rip up the grass to get to the roots where the grubs are. The crows actually eat the grubs too so it's a good thing you have them in your yard at this point.
After you've mowed the lawn, you can over spray the yard with this recipe. Add a mixture of 1/8 cup vegetable oil, 1/4 baby shampoo or Sunlight dish detergent, 1/4 cup mouthwash, and 1/4 cup tobacco juice (let 1 tsp chewing tobacco sit in 1/4 cup water overnight and strain) to a garden hose end sprayer. Fill remainder of sprayer with warm water, attach to hose, shake gently, and spray the lawn down. It's late in the season now but remember to do this each time you mow in the Spring and Summer (as the sun goes down or you may end up burning your grass) to control grubs and insect infestation. Oh, and don't worry, the dogs won't get sick from the grubs.

Brenda - luv ya Girl..but got to say that you need to co-exist with nature. The frogs, the crows the insects. No matter what you do really, another beautiful piece of nature will find their way into your space. Embrace their beauty. Your place sounds perfect actually...alot of life's marvels happening in your yard. I would trade my non existance back yard condo for your place anyday. You have it all Brenda.
LP is right..if you have grubs, you want the crows. Nature's way of working it's magic without any toxins...just nature's best. |

brenda, now i see what you mean
every morning in my backyard something, probably raccoons, skunks or possums have been digging on my lawn for grubs or roots,we don't care really,my lawn is not that great.. i have never seen any crows at night, when the damage is done. i just say,we all have to eat and whoever is eating the grubs,it can only be a good thing, don't worry about the puppers

Brenda, is your yard fenced and reinforced so that other little animals are prevented from coming in to dig up the lawn? Crows don't dig, they just use their beaks to peck out the grubs and don't do any damage. We've had some rain the last week so the grubs will come closer to the surface when the earth is very damp. The crows are your best friends right now.
Can you take a couple of pics of your lawn so we can see exactly what's going on? A close-up where it looks dug up would be ideal.

They're only eating food that's available to them . If you keep the grubs under control in the Spring, and perhaps overseed some of the rough spots, the grass will come back in .

Nematodes are used to control grubs.
