Want4Rain - postcards for you....
These are all from 1906 - 1908. They are from my grandmother's suitors. It seems she had a few.
For the most part they aren't romantic but there are a few that touch on it.

This one would have been considered a bit risque in those days.
The saying on this one is - The first wash day. It shows a clothes line with two fig leaves.

No problem. Just wanted to make sure I got them posted before I forgot! They are very precious to me. Made double so with my mom's passing last July. They are a part of her. They will be kept in a safe place and handed to my daughter when I am gone. I think it's amazing they are now 100 years old and still retain the colour they do. Thanks for looking.

Those really are pretty cool, 14+! Are there messages on the backs? Those must be almost as precious to you--a little piece of your grandmother's life brought to light.

Yep hazel. They all have little messages on. Some are written so small you can't read them very well. They are from a few different beaus my grandmother had. Most are from Toronto area and further north but a few are from areas in the States. Very neat. The Christmas post cards in the other thread are from her aunt and mother I believe. I will have to reread them to make sure. They mean a lot. Mom gave them to me about a year before she passed. She said she knew if I had them they would be treasured. Not thrown away. That means a lot.

As a matter of fact.......... a few. Grandpa wasn't much of a writer though. In the ones I found that we could decipher he called Grandma girl or girlie. Soooo romantic he was.

Oy! I love to be called Girlie
That's cute, though. She found something else in his character that appealed to her. I picture him as the strong, quiet type...sensitive... Maybe?

Unfortunately I was never to meet my grandfather. He passed long before I was born. He was a very very tall man. Well over six feet. All of my uncles were too. The story goes that Grandpa hit his head on the doorframe of an old Ford car one day. He died of a concussion the following day. I am not sure it that is the true story or not. There must have been something else going on too.
From what I was told Grandma ruled the roost in the house.

That's sad How old was your Mom when your Grandpa passed?
I can barely remember my Dad's dad--he died when I was quite small. Mom's dad is still alive--will be 101 this year!

I am not entirely sure how old Mom was. The only one left to tell me now is her brother. I will have to email him and ask. I "think" Mom was married or at the least in her later teens. I can remember going to my grandmother's funeral when I was around 7 or 8. It was the first funeral I ever went too. I will have to find my info to check dates again.
My daughter is going to start working on an updated family history soon. My mom had done a lot of it when she was younger. It's going to be a lot of work for my daughter to find my family and get all the history. She is going to do a website where the family can go and add updates. It will be quite the project for her.

What a treasure indeed 14+. Those are so cool .
I wonder if my grandchildren will ever appreciate all my old memorabilia ...they'll probably be cursing while they lug the dozen or so crates out of storage .
