My older dog
Hello, my name is Mary. I am a pet and animal lover. I have a 13 year old dog who has become blind because of cataracts but has constant diarrhea, cannot hear as well, cannot smell and gets confused. Is there any cause for all this to happen? Is it just age? Thank you.

Hi Mary, welcome to the board.
How long is it since your dog had a thorough examination at the vet, including blood tests? That is where I would start. Old dogs decline, like humans, but some of the things you refer to could also be the result of chronic ailments that can be fixed. It is not normal for them to have chronic diarrhea, for instance. Perhaps he is no longer be able to digest his food efficiently or has developed an allergy to certain ingredients, even if he has been eating the same food for years. What are you feeding him? So take him to the vet and get him assessed. Take a stool sample with you so they can examine it for parasites. With some simple measures, you could improve the quality of his life and extend his time with you. Keep us posted! ps. We love pictures. Got one? |

Hello,
Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your dog, but I agree with taking him to the vet for an exam. The vet would be able to tell u what is causing his problems and might be able to fix him with meds or a change of diet.
