Jin's adrupt stops
Jin, my dog has been still stopping all of a sudden. We walk for 2 mins and he wont go further. I give him a tug and he jumps and puts the leash under him. He keep tugging and he REFUSES. I go back to the way to our house, and he REFUSES. So im sitting there for 30 mins him looking and me and Im looking at him. After 30 mins I get tired of this non sense and pick him up to our house. Whats the matter with him? He always stops when were on walks. And I got in trouble one time because he just stopped on someones yard. I dont know how to stop this.
Lately Jin has been weird by me not letting me touch him. He wont let me pat his head, rub his belly or anything. He lets be pet him and rub him but only if he gets to nip my arm. And when I praise him and try to scrtach his ear, I raise my arm to pat his head but his head goes up with my arm. So my arm is by his mouth. Does anyone know how to stop this? |

Obedience schools are usually conducted in the evenings or on Saturdays, since most people work or go to school so there will be no problem for you to go.
Here are some in Dallas Dallas Obedience schools |

Excuses!!!!!!! ALL EXCUSES!!!! If I remember correctly, Dallas TEXAS is a BIGGGGGGG city........you can't actually think there is only ONE obedience school in a city that large?? Come on, we may be Canadian, but we aren't DUMB!!!!! Give us a break!!
YOU wanted the dog, YOU take the responsibility to deal with his issues. If you aren't prepared to do that, and do what is best for the dog, then you need to give him back to whoever gave it to you. Then slap yourself for being irresponsible and then slap your parents for letting you get a dog when you CLEARLY are NOT ready to have one!!

Amen!!! This is a load of hooey! It absolutely makes my blood boil when people say, "I don't have the time for classes", "I don't have the money for training", "She's only a puppy, she'll grow out of it". PAAH-LEEEZ! That's the biggest load of crap! Don't have a dog then. When you get a dog, THINK first - there are MANY things that dogs need, TRAINING, medical care, love and attention, they ALL come with a price! If you can't afford one of those things, don't have a dog!
Training is one of the most important things for raising a smart obediant dog -they learn that YOU are the dominant leader, they are socialized with other dogs, they learn MANNERS! Need I go on!?!? For the SAFETY of these animals they must have training. What are you going to do if for some reason your dog gets out into traffic and you can't get them to stop or come. That dog's life is in jeapordy and it's YOUR fault! That sounds a bit harsh, for that I am sorry, but the point MUST be made that it's not something that should be taken lightly! |

The puppy is 6 months old, and when Jindo4life was thinking of getting it, he said he had lots of time for it, since school is out.
Training goes along with dog ownership and "no time" is not a valid reason not to do it. |

lay off a little...
He's a kid and he's asking for help. You guys are running him off this site again... How come you all are in favour of positive reinforcement only for pets? Isn't the same true for humans? Perhaps (okay definitely) his parents shouldn't have let him have a puppy at what I can imagine is his young age, but the kid is the one on the website and he doesn't deserve to be blasted. Also, just because there are a ton of obedience training places in his city doesn't mean he is near enough to more than one or two of them to get there on his own. (Like so many parents, they probably thought that their kid could take care of a puppy on his own and that's what he's trying to do). Should he be raising a puppy at his age and maturity level -- no. But that's not the issue anymore. He already has the puppy and at least he is trying.

Perhaps you should ask your parents to read your posts.
Just a suggestion. |
