tail discolor on cat

My cat is around 4 years old and i have noticed that certain places on her tail are turning gray. Is this just a sign that she is getting older?

My black cat, Solomon, has been getting white/grey hairs since he was about 3-4 years old. He seems to get them mainly around his neck for some reason. It could be the same sort of thing...

I can't say I've ever noticed cats turning grey with age. Not like dogs, that show grey around the muzzle as they age. Has the tail in any way been damaged? Sometimes it takes a while for coat colour to change from when a kitten, but at 4 years old she's reached adulthood and should be in the prime of her life. It's possible there might be some kind of underlying medical condition, lack of something in her diet that's going on.
