Its been over a year and a half...

and i am finally back on this website!

yikes.

just wanted to say hello and let everyone know (who may remember my previous stints of frustration and agony) that things are going really well with my dog.

cassius (cash-us) is an awesome dog - hes VERY well behaved, very affectionate, playful, loves people, is the star of the local kennel and was so gentle with my new (2 month old) nephew when he first met him i couldnt be any happier with him.

we still have our struggles on walks...he still gets really excited and starts trying to lead me...and he still has spaz attacks...but i just roll with the punches and remember that we have about 23.5 hours of awesome behavior every day and 0.5 hours of doggy spaz time...honestly, i enjoy the spaz sometimes.

i do still use the illusion collar, i do still use "touches" to correct bad behavior and i praise the snot out of him for just being calm...but its worked out wonderfully - so i really cant complain about methods or anything - i guess all dogs are different and have different needs for training.

thanks to everyone who helped me out here, and even those who didnt - you made me try clicker training, haltis, gentle leaders, leash tricks, treats - i read books, and it was a great learning experience.

and i KNOW all the forum old timers LOVED pictures - so here are some for you all. me and cashy-boy hiking which we do every summer at least a handful of times, and some randoms.

i was gone for so long, but im making an effort to drop by regularly now, remembering how lost i was without help and hoping i can help someone else out and return the favors.

Kingdano nice to have an update on Cassius! He is looking really good! Sounds like he has done awesome since the last update. It also sounds like your using whatever works for you and you sound pretty confident and that works wonders!! So glad to hear that the collar is still working for you! I know of a few folks that love it!

Looking forward to more updates in the future!!

i basically just said "to hell with it" and went with what was working.

at the end of the day you cant please everyone - you just have to do what works for you and what you think is right.

i feel awful about my past mistakes - the plopping on the side and the 2 or 3 times i gave him a little smack - but the past is the past - i felt bad then, and worse now.

if anyone didnt make a mistake you're a frickin angel honestly, dogs can be SUCH little devils/heathens/pains in the butt/antagonizers/insert any bad word you want at times.

but as far as the touches on the side, and the illusion collar - meh - its not like i didnt try other things - they just didnt work, period.

if i could offer any advice to anyone reading these forums or anyone who gets advice from the forums it would be this...

dont pay attention to people who feel like their way is the only way - you need to do what works for your dog, and your personality

treats, praise, positive reinforcement, a halti, a martingale, prong collar...whatever...a frickin hemp leash..who cares...if it works, it works. go with it.

I didn't know what an "illusion collar" is and just looked it up, wow, that is a lot of collar. It almost looks medieval.

lol

its basically a double decked flat collar - it helps keep the martingale loop from slipping down the neck, and keeps it at the top of the ears/under the chin where its most effective/works most quickly.

this means less corrections, less firmness on the corrections etc.
