Any suggestions?
Hi,
I'm a recent board member at our local Humane Society and am trying to educate myself about dog/cat behaviours. All of our volunteers are wonderful and are there to try and help/save the animals, however, we live in a northern town and educated, professional animal trainers/vets/anything! are difficult to come by. I know this will not be a replacement for formal schooling, but at least it's a start. Thanks, Tara |

For cat behaviour, I recommend any of the books by certified animal behaviourist Pam Johnson-Bennett: http://catbehaviorassociates.com/ "Think Like A Cat" and "Twisted Whiskers" would be a good place to start. For overall cat care, The Cat Bible by Tracie Hotchner is pretty good, and I'm also a big fan of Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, by Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins.

Perhaps the dog training and cat training forums here will be of some help....

Dog Star Daily is a fantastic site for all things doggy. Check out the "Top Ten" section for a list of good books.
