I can't believe it's a necessary conversation, either--but I suppose there are all sorts of people out there and some of the really bad ones own animals.

What worries me about legislation are the unintended consequences. For instance, if it's against the law to have the vet do it, will people just dump the animal or kill it themselves or find a neighbor who will do it? Most people are too decent to even think about the possibility, but there will be some who take matters into their own hands.

Still, I'm shaking my head that this is even a problem! I just can't fathom it... We work so hard to keep our babies healthy and happy and are broken-hearted when they die... How could someone have them put to sleep for convenience! If you want a convenient life, don't get pets!
"We are--each of us--dying; it's how we live in the meantime that makes the difference."

"It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived!"

"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

Vets offices should have contact with no kill shelters so when a person want to kill a healthy pet the vet can call the shelter and have someone pick it up.
The owner can pay the cost of this instead of paying to have their pet put down. It's horrible to put a healthy pet down but it better than dumping the poor pet on the highway or woods to fend for itself .
