Slowly things are being done to help Feral cats in Toronto

It will only make a tiny dent in the feral cat population in Toronto, but anything is better than nothing.

I know this is posted on Craigslist ....but it is happening.

Toronto Cat Rescue has been doing this now for how many years? 5? 6? They have at least six vets, possible more, who give up their Saturdays or Sundays to s/n these cats. They have trappers out there trapping. I know of some who spend all of the night before sitting in wait for these kitties so they can get them fixed. The last time I was there one of their best was dropping off six cats/kittens she had spent the night trapping. They "belonged" to an artist who was content to allow them to roam his property but was doing nothing to get them neutered.
It's wonderful TO is finally stepping up and doing something. IMHO they should be taking a page out of Calgary's book as far as domestics go. Licensing them to help pay for s/n of feral cats and low income situations.
I could keep going on this for hours. Sorry for the rant.

According to the paper the other day 14k, the City is thinking of doing away with pet licenses, they say it costs more to collect the monies than the monies coming in.

I know TCR has been taking care of ferals for years, but it is nice to finally see an "authority" getting on board......The town next to ours "Georgina" does refund part of the cost of s/n if one submits a copy of the s/n certificate...it all helps.

Wouldn't it be nice for them to talk to Bill Bruce personally to see how he managed to do it? Calgary isn't a small place. If it can be done there it should be able to be done in TO as well. JMHO

I firmly believe with everyone working towards a common goal, cats will suffer less and maybe one day,the shelters will not be over-flowing.
I could be wrong, but there seem to be a renewed interest in the suffering of ferals,as well as unwanted strays.
Hopefully it will open at least some peoples eyes.

I know TCR are doing a fantastic job,but would it not be great if THS would do the same.
Now,I still do not have much faith in THS or the Toronto Animal Services, but if they do as they say,it could only be a great thing.
