teflon and birds
I'm sure most of you probably already know this, but just in case someone doesn't, it's worth posting.
Teflon fumes are toxic to birds. http://www.theaviary.com/teflon.shtml We had a bird and he lived in the kitchen. He died of a liver tumor. The vet was the one that told us about the fumes after he died, as we didn't even know. What reminded me of this was the waffle thread by prin, when they were talking about pans. I don't buy anything with teflon or non-stick anymore because of it....

Oh heavens, I didn't know about Teflon. Thanks for telling us. Did you also know that perfumed candles/air freshners/incense are also bad for birds?

I know. It's so bad. I try and not buy things with it in in. I have a lot of old pans from my grandmother that are heavy and work great! No need for non-stick if you know how to cook right.

I just studied the whole teflon thing in chem (to think I actually got something out of that class). It's only bad if you leave the pan on the stove for a long time w/out anything in it and it begins to smoke. The smoke is bad for most animals, including humans. Otherwise teflon is pretty harmless though, just don't let it smoke!

Febreeze has a lot of zinc in it, which is why it is toxic. But so is bread to birds, as it has too much aluminum additives.
