Digestion of Raw Meat
I am used to feed my corgi raw meats and blended vegetables every evening.
After that we went for walking and i used to feed him raw chicken carcasses or other raw meats when coming back so that he is not hungry. But by doing so will it means the dinner (which takes about 4 to 6 hours to digest) still havent digest and when giving him raw meats and bones again in later hours will led to early eaten delay in digestion and therefore bacteria grow? Spark. |

There is a whole other thread on this. Whether one food holds up the digestion of another has not been proven by scientific research one way or the other. The thread is here: http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=72523
The only helpful thing I can add is to wonder why you would feed what seems to be two complete meals so close together anyway? Pooch gets supper in the evening and then a pre-bedtime snack of a raw chicken? A whole raw chicken? I can't help wondering why his supper doesn't hold him till breakfast? Does he get breakfast too? |

I think a lot of people have the misconception that dogs have similar appetite and food frequency requirement as people. I know of people who panick if their dog doesnt get fed exactly at the same time everyday or when the dog "looks hungry".
Dogs who eat breakfast and dinner dont require snacks, lunch or bedtime food. So if you feed a balanced breakfast and dinner your pup shoudl be fine and shouldn't require a bedtime snack. If he gets proper meals at breakfast and dinner he shouldnt be hungry anymore.

SparklingSparky, are you asking if feeding two raw meals within several hours of each other can cause him harm? If so, then the answer is no.
We do feed only in the morning and evening with a little snack close to bedtime. However, our dogs rest for 1 to 2 hours after a meal before walking or going out to play.

He have breakfast and dinner.
The reason for giving him bedtime snack is because sometimes i will bring him out to dog run and play fetch ball (which is about 1 and half hour after dinner) therefore dinner time i feed less to avoid having bloat. One and half hour is safe to run and fetch ball (each time about 6 metres away)? If jogging i think is alright to feed him full dinner meal. |

Running is fine but I'd wait at least 2 hours after a full meal. And a snack at bedtime won't hurt him.
