I no longer have any faith left in any of the pet food companies.

Quote:
The highest level of acetaminophen was found in a dog food sample submitted by a manufacturer, she said. Coneley declined to identify the company but said its officials were given the results "well over a month ago."

That company should have -- but did not -- notify the FDA, which first learned of the acetaminophen findings after pet owners posted lab reports on the Internet, Arbesfeld said.
And things like this is why I took my dog off "dog foods" completely.

According to a letter sent to itchmo, one of the foods that had acetaminophen found in it was Science Diet Sensitive Stomach for cats.

This has to be the most outrageous irony of ironies....a so-called "prescription diet" for cats is found to contain a drug lethal to those same cats.

Well done, Hills!

They sell the science diet sensitive stomach in the pet stores, so I don't think it's one of the "prescription" foods. I'm not sure though. Hills could very well be the company that was informed "over a month ago", it said the FDA only learned about this after pet owners posted the results on the internet, and the only companies I have seen named on the net are Science Diet, and another food called Pet's Pride.

But who knows how widespread this could be since many companies are testing only for melamine and not for tylenol!

Here's info on (one of?)the other contaminated brand(s).
Quote:
Test results conducted by ExperTox, a fully accredited lab, confirmed the presence of acetamionphen and cyanuric acid in a mixture of Pet Pride "Turkey and Giblets Dinner" lot number APR 24 09, and Pet Pride "Mixed Grill" lot number SEP07 09. Additional tests have been requested to determine which variety, or if both, are adulterated with the substances. It is significant that melamine was not detected in the samples, as melamine is the marker for the Chinese grain products.
That's from pet food recall facts. Hopefully more info is released soon...although I don't expect it to come from the companies, as the only reason we know about this at all is from individual pet owners who had food sent out for testing. It's sickening when you think about it. The company that has known for a month that its food is/was contaminated and never said a word.
