Year old visalia having seizures I think, my vet can't figure it out!

I have a year old visalia male. He started have problems when he was about 10 months old. He will be perfectly fine walking around and playing and the next minute he is on the ground screaming his muscles will be flexed through his entire bodie. He usually pees on himself during the episode as well. Afterwards I can get him to walk but he is hunched up and acts like he is in a lot of pain (he is very sensitive about everything). A few hours later or the next day he is completely fine. The vet has done every type of blood work and urine analysis possible and everything comes back good. He doesn't show any signs of pain when the vet flexes his legs or neck. Then this morning he couldnt stand up. I had to stand him up and he could walk but he was kind of limping on his right leg and he was shaking the whole time. While he walked his back legs would give out and he would collapse. He currently won't stand up and if I go up to I'm to pet him he will start shaking. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

have you asked the breeder of your Vizsla if they have had anything similar in their dogs before?

question: did your dog have any vaccinations recently?

Hello Visalia12. Sorry to hear about your dog. I know how stressful having a sick animal can be.

The description that you gave of the first episode certainly sounds like it could be seizures. Epilepsy in dogs usually presents around 1 year old, so it is a possibility, and it wouldn't show up on any blood or urine tests. My dog is in a similar situation. She's even had an MRI and we have been unable to spot any issues. However, she still has seizures.

How is he doing now with walking? My little girl sometimes has sort of partial seizures where she tries to walk, but she can't because of their seizure. She seems to have partial control. And this eventually goes away, just like the other seizures. It may be something like that. However, it's hard to say because every dog is different. Did you ask your vet about this? He/she might be able to give you some further advice.

Does your vet think that it might be seizures or epilepsy? The best thing to do, and I know it might sounds strange, it to try to get one of the "episodes" on video. That will help with the diagnosis.

Has the thyroid been checked? Not common to have a really low thryoid in young dogs, but it happens, and has been said to be more frequent.

Has the pup been checked for tick diseases? Have the parents ever had a tick disease or live in an area where they are? If a pup is born with it, it may not register antibodies.

I would want a full blood panel run, including T4 thyroid, and would ask for a copy and look carefully to see if anything is at the high and low ranges.

I would also want a chiropractic evaluation: www.avcadoctors.com Anything neurological will be made worse if the spine is not correctly aligned.

I would also hold off on any future vaccinations until this gets figured out.
