yeah, what is the deal with that? why not put a 30% or 35% protein food on the market that's not contaminated with junk ingredients? why is it only max 26% and then you jump to 42% hmmmmm

In post #18 in this thread http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=37626 Geisha says that Orijen is coming out with a fish based kibble. Probably be higher protein though but you could mix it.

Yeah, hopefully it won't have chicken. Hopefully! Some companies don't understand the point of alternate protein sources.

I've found that Michele at Petcurean and Peter at Champion Foods to be the most "open" to ideas. You should email them and let them know. Also, Innova but I can't remember her name....I can see if I saved her email and let you know.

I have two names for Innova: Sharon Holden and Veronica Moreno.

I am not sure how GO! can be considered "grainy" as the carbohydrate content in the Chicken and Vegetetable DOG is at 25%,as I asked, versus most grain free at 14%-16%.
Also the crude protein level of chicken meal/turkey meal/fish meal (herring salmon etc) runs between 63%-66%. So little difference there. |

Hi there. I just wanted to clarify that when I emailed Petcurean in January asking where Go! was produced they replied Alberta.

Crude Protein (min) 24% Crude Fat (min) 14% Crude Fiber (min) 3.5% Moisture (min) 10% Ash (max) 7% Not much else left other than carbs and starches, and that all adds up to 58.5%... What's the other 41.5%? But I mean, just looking at it, it's grainy... Chicken Meal, Chicken, Whole Brown Rice, Whole White Rice, Whole Barley, Sunflower Oil, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols (vit. E), Salmon Meal, Dried Whole Potatoes, Rice Bran... Rice is by far #1 when you combine the three, right? |

That's what they replied to me when I asked. I see your point about the splitting thing, but it is 42% meat inclusion (how much is meat or meal I don't know) Maybe some of that protein is plant protein????

Yeah, it's sneaky. It's always sneaky.
#51
okay
so here is may take on it... Because everything is expressed as minimums 27%protein 17%fat (which makes sense as the calories are so high 5%fiber (include the veggies) 10% moisture 7% ash 25% carb 9% Glucosamine, Chondrotin, Yucca, Garlic etc Looks like it could work, not sure about the Glucosamine levels etc |
#52

It's highly unlikely that the supplements would add up to 9%... They're more like 1 or 2%...
And it's unlikely that the protein and fat would be much higher than the minimum because that would affect costs significantly, whereas adding more carb would not. We'll never know unless we make the food ourselves. |
#53
Okay
so then how come the calories are so high, and it feeds like it too? Considering that fat provides 2 1/4 times the calories it kinda makes sense to me |
#54
What's the calories/cup amount?
#55
one minute after....
617 per cup |

hmm... weird because Evo RM is only 487 I think...

Yes, I have pondered this too.... I am wondering if the amount of energy required for glucogenesis (turning protein to glucose) requires energy that takes away from the calorie count?? Because carbs are already sugar, there would be little energy expended????
#58
Not really because protein and fat have more calories per gram than sugar does.
#59
According to the textbooks, protein and carbs supply 4 calories per gram, and fats/oils 9, so where does THAT leave us?
