Thank you Cruiser, I'm very touched. I really hope Sydney will one day find a home. Everybody just keeps turning him down because of his deafness. It's becoming hard to imagine there will ever be someone for him.

Let me know by PM if we're not allowed to address this on the board, but I'm sure I have some friends at work who would like to help too. I know there's endless need with the rescues, can a few of us help you?
I think I'm allowed to post our website address... our three special needs dogs are posted on the homepage and there's a Paypal button to make a donation.

www.sasha.petfinder.com

If you don't want to use Paypal, I can pm you a postal address to send a cheque or our vet's contact info to make a payment straight there.

Thank you !

What is this surgery about? How much does it cost? Is it needed for him to live a healthy life?

I've been wanting another boxer for ALONG time.. he's a doll looks just like my Apollo!!!

This thread breaks my heart!

And Boxers in an Apt isn't a bad thing. I have a 905sq foot apt and have a boxer and he's fine. He can run and roam and play in here and we just make sure he gets LOTS of outdoor exercise

I took Sydney back to the vet because he had started to tilt his head to one side again. Sydney was treated for a severe internal ear infection 6 months ago. It seemed to have resolved (3 weeks of Orbax and a lot of $$$), but the vet now thinks that some bacteria might have been trapped in the internal ear because his eardrum was perforated at the time. I need to take him to a specialist for an ear flush, which is done under general anaesthesia. That will allow us to collect what's trapped beyond the eardrum, do an antibiogram and figure out which antibiotic would treat the infection, hopefully once and for all. Quote for the whole procedure EXCLUDING antiobiotics: 1400 $.

I have such wonderful news about Sydney...

First, he had his ear surgery done yesterday. Everything went well and within a month, his infection should be under control and this should be a thing from the past.

Second, and I still cannot believe it, after 9 months of waiting and hoping, well Sydney was adopted !

He met his new family at the vet clinic yesterday and it was love at first sight ! They had been waiting for him for a while and us, for them ! Sydney spent his first night with them all tucked up in bed between mom and dad, and patiently waited today till they came back home from work. Let's hope everything will be fine from now on. Poor Sydney really deserves a break !

Sydney's crate is empty now. It feels so strange when a dog I've fostered for so long leaves. Mixed feelings I guess. Happiness and a little grief, hope and a bit of worry. Oh well, that's the way it goes. Good luck my darling Sydney.

Inverness,I am sure you'll miss him,but you must feel wonderful knowing you made it possible for him to be adopted to a great family
I am sure you fall in love with your fosters, especially the sick, whom you nursed back to health, only to see them leave.
But it must be a sweet sorrow,an incredible feeling of accomplishment.
Thank's for all you do

That is wonderful news. I am sure you will miss him he is such a cutie pie. I don't know why people are so scared of deafness it is not really that much harder to train them. You are an angel Inverness

Oh Happy Day

Inverness, congratulations and thank you for the update. Soooo glad to hear that Sydney got his surgery and his forever home. What a big day for him. I too am on to hear this. I hope he's forever happy now. Bless you for all you did for him, it's only natural that you'll miss him terribly, but for all the right reasons. Bless you for all you do.

Sydney

Is this boxer still looking for a home? I currently have two boxers and could provide an excellent home for Sydney.

I translate for a deaf friend. It doesnèt matter what signs the dog knows compared to the family. The family will learn the animals signs quickly (as they have learned so many other signs) and the doggie will learn theirs. I hope it works out, as I think it would be a good match; A deaf person would be keenly aware of the dogs limitations in these areas!

Oh, Hi all.... Im Angie, from Ontario
