elevated alkaline phosphatase...
have a 7.5 year old male neutered springer spaniel...
after a series of standard blood sample analyses, my springer consistently shows extraordinarily high alkaline levels (1300-1600; normal is, i believe, 5-30). all other markers are normal, except now, his ALT level is slightly elevated... vets want next to test liver functioning--bioacid levels pre- and post-feeding... have researched somewhat on the internet but cannot find much information on what this might mean in canines... apart from this elevated alkaline level, my springer is symtpom free--have pretty much ruled out osteoblastic syndromes (like pagents or cushings)... what rankles me is that the vets just keep ordering test after test--if the bioacids are abnormal, they want to send him to an internist to do a liver ultrasound... am worried that i will not be able to afford whatever else they might recommend... can you suggest anything? recommend something to read? refer me to someone or some information source? thank you, md kerns
