How do you teach a dog not to bark at strangers?

I mean, let's say it's picked up a habit of barking at the slightest movement, or at anything that's not the owner. We want to train our dog, Panzer, not to bark at strangers. Is there any way to teach this to a dog?

We're really interested and will try anything. Our neighbours have already complained several times and we just want our dog to be a bit more friendly towards...well, people.

Panzer's a Spitts American Eskimo, all white, pretty small, and he's about 7 years old.

Any help would be great, esp. w/ ppl who also own a Spitts!

Thanks,

-Phil

Maybe you could try carrying a little squirter/water gun? You'd spray the dog everytime it barked, and reward it for stopping. With Kai, spraying worked. For Kaedyn, I had to shake a can of rocks everytime he barked. They're both pretty good about being quiet.

When he starts barking, say "no bark" and take two fingers and place them across the top of his muzzle. It works for my dog. You can also try the "watch me" command when he sees somebody and looks ready to bark. Also, if it gets really bad, buy a muzzle. When he starts barking, allow maybe one surprised bark, and then say "no bark." If he still doesn't stop, say "muzzle?" and put the muzzle on him. Pretty soon just saying the word "muzzle?" will make him stop.
