Dry pads
I've noticed that our cat's feet are very dry. Her pads almost appear to be flaky? It looks really dry and she doesn't want me to touch her little toes. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this, or if this warrants a vet visit? Or if there is something that I can put on her little toes. I know that bag balm works wonders for my sisters chinchilla (his ears)... can I apply that?

I personally wouldn't use Bag Balm on a cat. Most of it will end up being ingested, and the ingredients aren't something I'd feel comfortable letting a cat eat. Maybe we can try to figure out what might be causing the flaky paw pads. What does your cat eat? What kind of litter do you use? What about floor cleaners, etc? Do you see him licking his feet very often?

Well, shes very new, we just got her last Saturday. I am in the process of switching her diet to Wellness. The litter isn't very high quality, and we usually use a mild bleach solution on the floors, or something like Mr. Clean... Is there anything better I can use?

Congratulations! How old is she? Do you know anything about her background?
Wet or dry? I'm assuming the food she's been eating before she came to you has been a poor quality kibble, so that might be at least part of the problem right there. Perhaps once she's been on a better diet for a while, her skin will also improve. If it's scented, I would switch to something else as soon as possible. The chemicals used to scent the litter could be irritating or allergenic. You might have to try a few different litters (give her a choice in a couple litter boxes and rotate the selection to see what she prefers), but some of the better ones are plant-based (everything from corn, wheat, pea pods, paper, pine, etc). What's your kitty's name? Got any pics of her yet?

Dry pads can be a sign of a lack of Omega 3's in the diet. You might try giving cat one water-packed canned sardine once or twice a week.

It might work, but do not know how much you should give? You don't want to give too much. Another forum member may know what amount would be safe.
