Quick question..
I went to my new BFs house today for the first time.. And he has 2 cats.. 1 had a hairball he was trying to get up And his mom put a bit of vaseline on Oreos nose (not his actuall nose, but like, right above that on his muzzle) And he licked it off. She said that it helps him get the hairball up. And sure enough, up it came..
I dont know much about cats, or vaseline for that matter, But i was mortified when i seen her do that. I couldnt help but think that it is bad for his health in some way. I didnt say anything, as i didnt want our first meeting to turn into somebody getting offended by my questioning their actions.. Just wondering if the kitty persons of the forum could tell me if it will harm him or not.. Cause if it will, i will certainly mention it to her, Maybe with some backup for why it isnt so good.... Just wondering.. Thanks. Jessica and keely, And oreo This time as well!

Ya, unfortunately lots of people (even vets) use vaseline or mineral oil to deal with hairballs, and it does frequently do the job. There are better products out there though, like Vetbasis Hairball Gel or Vet's Best Cat Lube, which don't contain any petroleum by-products.

I will order some of the vet basis hairball gel and pick up some other stuff for the kitties as well. Just give it to them as a gift. I have a bit of a fear of confrontation.. So i''lll take the easy way out.. lol.. Just Casually throw it out there that This is healthier for the kitties.. I have to say, They are one of the few from around here that Have their cats Strictly indoors And on good Quility Canned food! (Caned wellness..I have yet to see Cats taken care of like People here take care of their cats) I got excited when they got fed. lol.. Yea, I am weird.. And im happy to announce that I wasnt Nervous around these kitties.. Oreo Was even on my back at one point, with his chin rested on my head, and paws rested on my shoulders.. Little goofball Didnt get any pictures
