Not a Good Morning
Well I was woken up this morning to the sound of Peaches having a seizure
We got back into Toronto yesterday afternoon and he was fine in the car and all of last night. I called the vet this morning to let him know since this is the first seizure he's had since the phenobarbitol should have been absorbed into his system. The vet thinks that given the circumstances, it may be the build-up of stress from travelling, going to a new home, travelling again, and coming back within 5 days even though he didn't show any distress. So his suggestion is that we monitor him closely and should he have another seizure we'll test for the levels of the drug and possibly increase the dosage. If he doesn't have another one, the vet said it can probably be controlled by just giving Peaches an extra dose of Phenobarb when he'll be traveling or in a change of scenery to stabilize the increase in stress. I'm also watching his paw because when I got to him, he'd fallen from the chair and his claws were caught in the side of the cushion - I was able to lift him while he was seizing and get it uncaught and he was a limping a bit when he came out of it but it seemed to subside by the time I left for school. The good side is that the meds seem to be helping him come out of the seizures sooner. Before he was on it, the seizures lasted for about a minute and then it took him atleast 3-4 hours to get back to normal but this time the seizure was only about 30 seconds and within a half hour he was back to normal It was just the stress and he doesn't have another one. |

Poor Peaches! Poor you. It sucks to watch our babies go through those nasty things. It sounds like the meds are doing their job. I would think the stress of being away from normal surroundings is what did it. It would to Keesha.
Keep up the good work, mom!! One seizure in how long is much better than what he was going through before.

Thanks guys. I know the meds are helping, it's just hard to watch him go through it.
He was waiting at the door for me when I got in today and now he's following me around like usual so things are looking up! |

Meg,I am soo sorry,it's really scary isn't it?
Poor beautiful little Peachesbut I am sure with an adjustment of his meds he'll be fine. I've dealt with seizures in my son,but when Rocky had seizures one very hot summer,I was terrified for him, however it was from the heat and him playing too hard, was never put on meds. for little Peaches

Thanks Everyone It's nice being able to talk about it here - other than my family and roomates, a lot of my friends don't really understand why I'm putting so much into Peaches, to them he's just a cat.
The vet called me again this afternoon..I think he senses I'm a worrier! lol But he assured me that testing can definitely wait another week or so until Peaches has been back in his element to see if it was just the stress. |
