I have 2 blue spruce trees that cover my whole front yard. I decided since lots of birds hang out underneath that I would give them some place to cool down...

Wow, nice lily and poppies. Now I am hoping that some seeds given to me as simply a 'red heritage poppy' might be that same one. Nice bird bath and I love the cat face, I'm sure I could find room for that in my garden. You know, I was admiring your dog's lovely topline - maybe I'll always study conformation after showing on and off for so long - but then I noticed he has a terrific front too. Hopefully that might mean that Lab's might be a dog where the breeders haven't ruined the conformation. Highly likely seeing they are a working dog still. Sorry I went off topic on you.

Thanks GF! although I have no idea what it means?? sounds like a compliment though!! he is a lab shep x believe it or not. Although he has alot of the purebred traits he is large for the breed I think. He weighs in at 110 pounds!

The birds were loving the bird bath tonight! and the seed I left around it too! I can always tell when a cardinal drops by they have such a distinguishing chirp!

The poppies are really big! its funny though they certainly look like a big weed before they bloom!

Beautiful peonies, Cindy! The bud on the peony tree is gorgeous! And I love the bicycle ornament!!

My mom's favorite flowers were poppies. I keep trying to grow them, but hubby mistakes them for weeds every year and weed whacks 'em down before they bloom This year, if I can still find some, I'm going to plant them in one of the fenced gardens and see if they can avoid destruction there....

Winston is looking marvelous, too. He does seem to enjoy touring his yard and mom's gardens.

That is one gorgeous plant, Winston!

I've got so much chainlink I'd love to get some clematis growing on... Problem is between the deer outside and the boy dogs watering it from the inside, nothing I try to plant along the fence line has managed to survive

Put the plants in pots, Hazel. BIG pots so they are safe from your boys, and inside the fence so they can climb. If the deer are a nuisance why not put up a trellis somewhere for a clematis? That's a magnificent one, Winston. Tell me, what do they do in Winter, do they die right down? I've never succeeded in growing one.

GF some clematis you have to cut right down and others not. These ones just dry out and die off and then start again the next year. However I have one that is over 10 yrs old that I have never trimmed and it is so thick now that not all of it drys out...

Hazel Winston pees on mine sometimes. I place a small trellis or bamboo around them to guide them up the fence...We think alike I have about 6 clematis now covering a good portion of the chain link and it hides the neighbours mess!

Pots won't work, GF--anything in pots, no matter how big, will freeze out in our winters. If I put it in a pot small enough pot to carry into the shed for the cold months, the boys can still hit it And Grace likely would eat it like she's eating my peonies and irises!!! What a brat! But I always thought that clematis on the chain link would go a far way in making it purrrdy...

I've got one spot that may open up in the fenced kennel garden that would need a trellis for climbing but at least would be safe from the dogs. I love that dark one of yours, Winston! Very dramatic!

Winston, in the hosta shot just a few posts up, what are the red flowers? Are those little petunias? They sure are a pretty color! Reminds me of Christmas. (Can you tell it's hot here, today--hazel is dreaming of winter! )
