Sardines are a big hit here

Everybody loves them, all 4 cats and both puppies. I give them each one every other day as a treat on top of their food at dinner time. They all look so surprised when they first dive into their dishes and then the excitement starts, the sardines are gone in a split second.

Canned or "fresh-from-frozen" raw? My gang love both but the fresh-frozen give them a little more "bone-action". If you haven't tried the frozen then do, if only for the humour value. I can't describe it but magnify the surprize, facial chewing contortions and joy by ten and ya got it !

I get the same reaction with chicken livers, served raw. Oh the chorus and it doesn't let up until the bowls are down.

mmmm-mmmmmmm! Raw frozen sardines and raw chicken livers! One of hazel's favorite dinners! Easy to make, too! But for some reason no one ever comes for dinner a second time...

Oh! hazel's supposed to make that for the dogs!?! Whoops!

Note to self: offer to supply dinner when visiting Hazel .

I've never seen the frozen ones here. Are they individually quick frozen so they don't stick together? Who makes them and what does the package look like?

So how much different do fresh-frozen sardines taste from the canned ones? I'm assuming the strong flavor from the canned fish is from the oil they're packed in? At least, I think they're packed in oil, aren't they? It's been a long time since I had sardines from a tin...

You can get them packed in water, mustard and a bunch of other things I can't remember right now.

Are they in clear plastic bags? I seen something at Extra Foods (one of the supermarkets here) but didn't look closely.

I can remember my dad making something called kippers ( a Friday night Catholic thing too).

The frozen ones don't have anything added, the canned ones are better rinced before giving them to the doggies. I can't find any frozen ones here.

Cats and chicken livers?? Definitely!

Do you think doggies would like smelt the same as sardines (cause Otters LOVE smelt and then Molly and I could share)?? I'm guessing raw fish is no problem for dogs not doing RAW diets?

I tried my cat Charlotte on sardines one time. I placed one on top of her hard food and called her thinking it would be such a treat. She walked over to the dish, gave it a look and a sniff, turned towards me and said,"There is a corpse in my dish, get rid of it!" Then she turned and walked away in a very disgusted gait that only a cat can accomplish.

My cats only eat them if they're smushed up.

A corpse in their dish. Too funny.

Gave the gang all some again this morning. Little Bentley never gets a chance to even see it, Baxter eats them like they're candy.
All my cats love them, whole or mushed up, leave them whole and they'll drag the smelly things around somewhere else to eat them

I've never tried the frozen ones but will look for them this week when shopping.

Why would you have to rinse off the canned ones? You would think the soya oil would be good for them.

Cindy
