Re Is cat in heat? Do they spray? Can she be sterilized?
I rescued a Mother Calico Cat 3 days ago, and I have been working to socialize her and it is coming along great....hmmmmm - I noticed though that she was sort of leaning on her front elbows and had her rear up, in front of my neutered male cat. Yesterday I thought how friendly and cute she was rubbing on him, rolling in front of him etc.!! Now, I am wondering, is there a chance that she is going into heat? Do they spray? I would like to know if she can still be sterilized in this condition - is it safe? How long does it last?
What more can I expect? Thanks. |

Yup, shes in heat!
Cats seem to be in heat ALL THE TIME when they start , I have brought in a few females in full blown heat for spays, no ill effects. Vets dont seem to have an issue doing this either. I guess the risk of blood loss isnt the same with cats in season and dogs in season. Its hard to book an appointment for a cat that has reached maturity and ensure they wont be in heat. As far as spraying.... im not sure. I dont think so, but could be wrong. None of my females ever sprayed and only one of my males did ( even after neutering)

I've never had a female cat that has sprayed. I agree with Erykah and would take her to the vet asap to be spayed.

Yes, she certainly can be and it would be the best thing you can do for her!
