Sudden Death in 5 yr Dog-Looking for Answers
I hope someone can help.
On Sunday, my beloved 5 yr old dog Snookie suddenly passed away. She was in good health, no problems, never sick. She was a pound puppy, no specific breed. Just minutes before she was running around, wagging her tail, no breathing problems, no different or strange behavior. She was just hanging out with me in the front yard when she saw one of her "doggie" friends going out for a walk. She took off at a full run and went about 100 ft and just fell over. She made no strange noises, no yelps, nothing. I was chasing her at the time and when I got to her she was dead, tongue out eyes fixed. I put her head in my lap immediately and I think I felt her last heartbeat. Can anybody help me understand what happened? I keep looking for something I might have missed. My heart is broke. She was my constant companion and best friend. Thx |

It sounds like a heart problem, something that could never have been predicted. I've heard of cats that pass this way. But without a necropsy (autopsy), it is impossible to be sure. Have you spoken to your vet?
I'm so sorry. What a terrible shock. He was a beautiful boy. One thing's for certain, he didn't suffer, but I imagine that's cold comfort right now. Snookie |

I'm guessing a heart condition as well. At her age, it was probably something she was born with, and couldn't have been prevented. It sounds like she lived a life full of love...sorry for your loss.

tjs - the exact same thing happened to my X Pit/Shep. He was running in the dog park and then slumped down, never got up.
The vet had told me that he suffered a heart attack. Upon investigation, it was found that beautiful Max had suffered several strokes before without me witnessing any signs. I so connect with you.. I am so sorry for your loss. Sometimes I do not know what is better - loosing them immediately without preparation, or losing them knowing that the time is coming soon.... Peace to you both. |

I'm so sorry for your loss of Snookie, tjs. She was a beautiful girl with a happy smile.
It does sound like a heart attack, though it's impossible to tell for sure. It's certain, however, that she died while having fun, in your loving arms. She'll carry your love with her always until you are reunited. I hope you can take comfort in that, once your grief has lessened a little bit You're in my thoughts and prayers, tjs. Snookie

How sad. I am glad that your beautiful Snookie didn't suffer. I agree with the others, it must have been a heart attack. I wish you well in your grief.

Thank You to all
Thank you all for your words of sympathy and wisdom.
It's been one of the hardest weeks of my life. When you are accustomed to having this little smiling face follow you wherever you go, from room to room, to not have that company is so painful. She will always be missed but live forever in my heart! My entire family and circle of friends feel the loss of this loving, sweet, gentle and beautiful creature. I'm sure heaven just needed her beautiful smile and loving disposition. Again thank you. ~ Tjs aka "Snookie's Mom". Snookie is now my personal |

What a beautiful girl!! I'm so sorry for your loss. Just think how hard she's running over that bridge right now. She'll be waiting for you on the other side!
