Unusual Occurrence ALBINO MOOSE

A rare sighting of an albino moose near NORTH BAY, Ontario
These pictures were taken by a hydro crew who (couldn't believe their eyes)
but did have enough wits to grab a camera. It is not something you see every day!

Wow in native folklore that would be an incredible sign! Unfortunately in the wild it has a huge target on it back either by preditors that can see it easy or some fool hunter who has to mount it on his wall GRRRRRRR!

The territory that im from which is near by where that moose was spotted is where im from Nipissing First Nations (Ojibway Territory) and yes the moose would be considered sacred but would not be permitted to be hunted.

But im sure there will be some idiot out there that would like to see that moose on the wall.

Wow those pics are awesome thanks for sharing I love to see an animal in the wild. I'm constantly trying to see the deer in our field I find it just mesmerizing, or a moose on our way up North ( haven't seen one yet) but to see a WHITE one must have been a real thrill

Wow,amazing pictures...beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!
Something eerie and magical about it,the Indians have the right feeling about so much of our wildlife...
Unfortunately some idiot dressed in fatigues armed with a cross-bow or gun could put an end to this wonder of nature.

Well his demise may come from fellow Moose

Apparently they have a tendancy to kill these albino's.

Good luck Whitemoose

Waiting for a meeting to start a while back a couple of the guys were discussing the upcoming hunting season. I don't really have too much of a problem with hunting as they use the meat so what can I really say.

One guy mentioned he was going after a deer that had eluded him for a couple of years running. It was also albino and he asked if we knew the odds of that. He said it was one in twenty five thousand. That's when I piped up "that's all the more reason to kill it". It got a few laughs but I think the sarcasm was lost on them.

Why is it simply being rare is just all the more reason to kill it? I hope that moose gets onto protected land.

I am sorry, but I do not see why anyone would want to kill anything, much less an Albino Moose, there is something eerie and extreemly beautiful about them, almost angelic,a gift to us to see.

I used to HATE seeing moose standing by the side of highway 144 to Timmins. Always knew if I hit one I'd lose.

I have a saying to the hunters who tell me hunting is a sport. "Make it a real sport and give the deer/moose/bears GUNS".

Bearsmom,I love the forest and would feel elated if I came upon any wild animal,a gun-shot,blood and a dead or wounded animal, would destroy the beauty and peace of the forest and turn it ugly, only humans can accomplish that

The ones that tell you its for sport they are not hunters.

 There are alot of natives that live in third world conditions up north and non natives in small towns that live way below the poverty line who need to hunt moose, deer and bear to get through the year,Also you have to remember alot of natives need wild meat as part of thier diet.

Just for the record any traditional native would not hunt a white moose as it would be considered sacred,If one was to shoot a white moose that person and his or her family would be shuned.

I know, I spent some time in Moose Factory. I have no objections to anyone who will USE the animal, it's the ones who load up their $60 000 pickup trucks full of equipment, shoot and leave the carcass simply for something to mount on the wall.

Yes, I completely agree. Sport hunting just makes me sick! I mean, if you have to eat to survive, then kill it, but don't kill the poor thing for it's antlers!!! Lots of people I know just go for a walk in the mountains or the woods in the fall and pick up beautiful racks off the GROUND, where they reside after the animal dies. Such a waste....
On a lighter note, there have been several reports of a white Moose up in the Lac La Biche area of Alberta. Hopefully he/she is still our there and not on some (dare I say it?) dicks wall somewhere.

As beautiful as moose are, I do not want to see any moose anytime soon. Not after my run in with the one that fell out of the sky and wrecked my car and nearly killed me! Poor guy! Someone was killed in the same area a few weeks ago, sigh!!

Working with horses for the majority of my life I have learned that horses with the albino factor are not suitable for consumption. This is why when horses are sent to meat (as gross as it seems but it does happen) the white horses can not go. They are great carriers of cancer, not in themselves but it can be transmitted to whoever or whatever is eating it apparently. I have looked on the net and apparently moose or dear carrying this albino gene also share this "not suitable for consumption' factor. So if this moose was shot it would be nothing more then a wall mount. Poor poor moose!

Funny thing is someone asked me to go on a hunting trip yesterday. I laughed at them and gave them a serious talking too. They then asked if I would just go and stay in the cabin and I wouldn't even want to be apart of it. I think its disgusting and certainly not a fair sport. Ya lets shoot defenceless animals while they eat. Wow you deserve a medal for that hunter guy! Good job I don't know how you out smarted an animal that doesn't have a 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN. I believe that the natives and anyone who depends on this to eat is a totally different story. Thats called the circle of life. But because its fun to shoot defenceless animals is absolutly disgusting. Then they called me an animal activist. Just because I didn't agree, ok ok I was fuming mad at them. Sorry to rant but it was such a fresh argument.

I was reading today, that weekend hunters have a very high risk for heart-attacks and many have died out in the woods. The reason being that most are normally overweight couch-potatoes through the week and the excersion(sp?) from carrying,nap-sacks etc...trouncing through the snow, together with the excitment discovering a victim, makes their blood-pressure sky-rocket and their heart beat a mile a minute, causing a heart-attack....so there is a bit of justice after all, although I do not want ANYBODY dead, prey or hunter.
