10 yr old dog occaisonally poops small amounts when sitting
Hello All!
My 10 year old american pitbull is a wonderful family pet. He has always been in good general health, is very playful and loving, eats, sleeps and does his outside business normally. The only age related symptom we have noticed is a touch of arthritis. Lately he has been letting little poops slip out when he is sitting. After it happens he slinks away as if he knows he's done wrong. We don't scold him for it as it seems it's not intentional. We have not changed his food and he goes outside and has regular bowel movements. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Carrie |

Think a Vet visit is in order. You are right not to scold him, poor boy, he can't help it. Please see your Vet soon.
When my 12 year old had fecal incontinence we already knew she had invertebral disk disease and spinal spondylosis. We are not sure if it was the neurological damage or the pain meds that caused her to be unable to sense when a poop was imminent. This was a fact of the rest of her life and no changing it. What did help was to bulk up her food so she could better feel a bowel movement coming on. Higher fibre food and Immodium helped in this regard. Just some ideas to consider, I certainly am not presuming to diagnose or treat your dog over the internet. Please ask your Vet. |

Please take a poop sample to the vet with you. As well as it being a neurological problem, it can also be caused by parasites or viruses.
Good luck and please post with an update. |
