Exclamation Lump Help Me Please!

My dog bruno which is a dobermin pinscher is almost 7 now....three years ago we found an odd lump on him the vet said to put a hot pad on it once a day. We did that it went down. Then recently it seems the lump has gotten bigger we havent had a chance to bring him to the vet. Do you know of anything that could be wrong. Also lately he's been eating like crazy but it seems like he's so skinny. Do you know if it's stress because we've had to keep him in his cage because our house is being done and we can't watch him all the time. Do you think it is stress?

Did you take him to the vet when you first noticed the lump? It could be anything from a lipoma, to an abcess to a malignant tumour. The only way to know is to have it needle aspirated or biopsied.

You say he is eating a lot and losing weight. I don't know if this is related to the lump or not, but he needs to be completely checked out.

You might want to see another vet. I know of no doctor who can say for sure that a lump is "nothing" without taking a sample to analyze.

At any rate, you'll have to take him in for blood tests for the increased appetite and weight loss. It could by thyroid problems, diabetes or other illness that needs medication.

If you are still worried, you should take the dog to another vet. It might just be a fat lump. My friends dog has one.

Try a different vet if you don't think the other one is doing enough. The object is to find out what the lump is. I've even heard of people doing biopsys (spelling) and missing the lump completley! The thing is, you know the lump is there, and you're worried about it, so you have to have it checked out. Good luck to you!

Unhappy Lost

Thanks for the advice, were trying to make an appointment for him for when my lil baby gets fixed(ouchies). So I don't know what to do if it turns out to be something that could kill him. My animals are my life but I've had him since he was 6 weeks, HE COULD FIT IN THE PALM OF MY HAND. Now every night that lil booger(in a good way I say this) sleeps in bed with me. If he has to be put down I don't know what I'll do.

Don't borrow trouble. I found a lump on my Chase last fall and was worried sick. A needle aspiration and $30 later, I knew she had a fatty tumor and it was nothing to worry about.

I have no idea what is wrong with your dog, but I am hoping that it is all fine.

Lumpy DP

From what you say and I'm no vet, If the lump receeded with heat it most likely isn't a tumor. I know in lab rats tumors don't normally receed from heat. (well lasers are hot and they can receed the heck out of a tumor-cook those little buggers right out of the system, but I digress).
The best thing to do is ave the vet check it's contents. Very easy and won't hurt the pup, plus you will know what it is and have some direction in treating it.
In the absence of facts the mind runs wild in all the worst directions.....

Thanks....but the thing is the lump was only smaller for a small amount of time and then it became larger. Right its bigger than before and it kind of juts out and its reddish. I don't know maybe I'm just freaking, we'll have to see when he goes to the vet.

It could be nothing, don't worry yourself until you know.

It may just be a wart, which can be removed easily with no troubles.

I wouldn't put anymore heat on it though.
