Thanks Cerea for that great explaination!
Most of my lilies are asiatics as they don't seem to mind the cold in my zone 2a garden. I do have a couple of daylilies of the kind that go completely dormant, though I have lost a couple of them do to the Ggrrr renovations. I did have some LA hybrids, but again...renovations did them in. *sigh* I lost a lot of my patio lilies too. I got a lot of my lilies from Lilynook. I think I will try and dig up some of my clumps of lilies and move them to the barere spots in the fall. Thanks for the link I will check that out too. Debbie

BTW---do you have any moonflowers? It's the plant where the flower opens in the evening right before your eyes. They are so cool and would love to find some seeds.

Were you happy with the bulbs from Lilynook? I looked at them a few times but never ordered from them but instead ordered from PlantLilies. They are based in Alberta and deal with Canadian lily breeders which is cool. Plus they also grow a large amount of what they sell instead of dealing in mass quantities grown somewhere else. I'm putting colored ribbons on all my lilies to catalog them all and tell what they are after blooming is done and going to do a mass rearranging this fall. So if anyone likes what they see as I post more later on, maybe we can trade lilies! If you need help just let me know! Quote:
I have some white tall Phlox somewhere that the previous owners planted in a shady spot. But those pink ones sure do stand out! I don't have moonflowers, but I'm sure there are a ton of gardeners that do in Canada. Head over to Gardenweb and go to the Canadian trade section and post to see if anyone can send you some seeds in a trade. I've received some good stuff trading through that site. I'm looking to get some Comfrey, but I think it's too late this year. The Stargazer lily is what started my obsession with lilies. I have a few other Orientals but can't remember what color beside the Stargazer. I think there's one called "Hot Lips."

My pink ones are the tall breed too. I also have tall white ones but their not out yet. Having a problem with them right now as far as powdery mildew?
Thanks for the Gardenweb suggestion--I'll check it out.

If you're having trouble with the white ones, when I move those clumps I will attempt root cutting propagation for the first time. Supposedly you can slice off pieces of Phlox root, place them on top of some potting soil and cover with small gravel or vermiculite and they will root into new plants.
Will have more new lily pics in the next couple of days. Waiting for more buds to open.

So I should just take parts of the roots (from my white one) and plant them in a new spot (in my garden) with potting soil? Interesting!

I have a book somewhere that explains how. I'll get a screenshot of it for you as soon as I can find it. I also saw some people doing root cuttings on a British gardening show I watch online called "Gardener's World." Looked easy enough.

No it's my pleasure!
Found it! Hope you're able to see it clearly. The book is "American Horticultural Society Plant Propagation: The Fully Illustrated Plant-by-Plant Manual of Practical Techniques" Alan Toogood, Editor in Chief. The picture on the bottom with the roots laying on top is what I was referring to. The other way is for thicker tap-like roots.

I don't mind. It's an electronic version of the book and was on my hard drive.
