How often should kittens poo?

Hi all,

I'm a new mum (and first time cat owner) to Freddy, an adorable six month old kitten. While he was typically pooing once to twice a day, he hasn't 'gone' in 2 days. Should I be worried? Is there something I can do?

Thanks so much!

Sarah

Have you taken the kitten to vet since you had it? Is the kitten trying to poop at all and has it been checked for worms yet? What kind of food are you feeding your kitten and is he drinking enough water?

A change is something to look out for. A regular schedule of pooping once a day, which is average for most cats, changing to not going in 2 days is an alert something might be wrong. Are you sure he hasn't gone somewhere else? Going somewhere else is also a change and an alert to possible problem though so a Vet check might be in order. Kittens usually aren't quite as bad as puppies at eating stuff they shouldn't but he could have consumed something that is now blocking him up.

Freddy has indeed been to the vet and dewormed and seems to be eating drinking enough. Luckily....he was indeed going somewhere else (don't I feel silly) and all seems to be well now. I'll be taking him for a check-up this week though just to be safe.

Thanks so much for all the advice!
