Fairly New and Picking a name for our PUPPY!

Hello
I'm fairly new, joined here in Jan. and have met some of you, and thank you for your help with our choise between a Leonberger or a bernese. Everyone had such great comments, Thank you so much!
So we have picked a male Leo and he will be coming home on March 12, 11 days, we are soooooo excited!
So far the family favorite name is MAVERICK ( my hubby thinks if we eventually get 2 we can call the next one Goose, lol...) and I think the breeder has even started to call him Maverick, but it's not set in stone yet!

Other choises are
Griffen
Hudson
Bo ( only I seem to like this one)

Any votes????

Also, I'm looking for advise on dog food, I never realised how much thought went into picking food, I'm soo confused, but will post in the right section for that topic!

but I'm partial to Griffen. but Maverick also has a nice ring.

What you need to do Flicka is stand outside your door and yell each name (from the top of your lungs ) to see which one rolls off your tongue the best!

HAHA Thanks for the votes!
We actually thought of Maverick while out one day and a dad was calling to his child Maverick, and we both thought what a cool dog name! It was later that we made the top gun jokes

I love Griffin too!

I find that dog names get shortened to one or two syllables, whatever their name is. Our Bodhi is often called Bo . Our neighbours have a dog named Qimmiq (Kimmik), which is Inuit for 'dog', but he is called "Q", or Kim.

Maverick would, probably, get shortened to Mav or Mavi. Griffen would become Griff.

Would you be inclined to shorten the name as an 'endearment'? If so, then choose a shorter name so that the name for the dog is clear. Or choose a shorter name that doesn't easily get shortened. For instance, Koda doesn't easily shorten to Ko, and Bishop doesn't shorten easily to Bish (sorry aslan, for using your pup's name as an example).

Another thing you can do is , wait until the puppy gets home. Sometimes you choose a name and then realize the dog's personality doesn't match the name.

I met a Saint Bernard with the name 'Moose' - loved the name ever since and used the name for a tiny foster cat I had.

For some reason, names starting with the letter 'M' has always appealed to me. I like Maverick very much. We actually had a family pet cat with this name...it's a lucky name for sure!
