Manuka Honey?

Has anyone ever tried Manuka Honey for the dogs? I hear that the active honey does wonders for all sorts of ailments. Including stomach upsets, ulcers, IBS and Colitis. I bought some and have been giving it to Leia on her biscuit before bed time. She has been grinding her teeth and our vet thinks it may be acid reflux and suggested it. Does anyone else's dog grind their teeth?

We have only tried it 2 times now haven't seen any results yet.

manuka honey

dogs really love it (probably because its sweet). my dog had kennel cough and the vet told me it would take afew months to get rid of it. i started giving jack 3/4 teaspoons a day and his cough was gone in about 4 days. the vet was blown away by it and they now use it and stock it. theyve been using it on infections from surgury as well and had really fast recovery times.

i get mine from www.echohealth.me

I know cats that have kidney failure often have excess stomach acid/acid reflux/nausea that leads to teeth grinding. I would assume dogs' with acid reflux would also grind their teeth.

Pitgrrl has used Active Maunka Honey for her dogs see here: http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread....667#post670667

Both my dogs has problems with acid reflux (woohoo for littermates ), but they don't grind their teeth, they drool and do a sort of repetitive gulping/hard swallowing thing.

The Manuka honey hasn't totally gotten rid of the issue, but it's far less frequent and much less intense when it does happen (which is a whole lot more than I can say for Pepcid, the usual recommendation for acid reflux). IT also seems to have made a difference in one dog's colitis and seems helpful for stomach upset of whatever kind (aka Basil decided the neighbour dog's poop was a tasty snack ).

Thanks everyone. I've read the research and we are going to keep on giving Leia the honey. She loves it too! Luke won't eat it. I thought I would try giving some to him too but he prefers his cookies plain jane!

UPDATE on grinding teeth

We thought the honey was working well. She still grinds every now and again. Then all the sudden one night it was TERRIBLE!!! She wouldn't stop. The next day I noticed that the DAP plug in in our room was empty. I replaced it and the grinding is alot less now.

Funny thing tho....the other night DH asked Leia off the bed and she jumped off in a big huff and laid down in her bed and starting grinding. We are starting to think its more behavioural than anything now

Where do I get a MMM Appeasing Pheromone plug?

I've never had or even heard of a dog who grinds their teeth (and I thought I had all the bad behaviours pretty much covered off!). I had a horse once who ground his teeth almost to the gums. On a serious note, when she gets to stay on the bed ~ does she grind? No chance it's jaw or tooth pain? Does she do it even while she's sleeping?

I've checked with our vet and she has looked at her teeth and they are fine. At first I thought she may have something caught in between them but there is nothing. She barely grinds now when sleeping with us esp. since we put the DAP plug in back in. But she does grind if she has to lay on her pet bed. It started just after we adopted Han.

Yeah I'd have to agree on the stress. I've found, even now three years later, Bridie (who's my little tough grrrl) is still needier than she used to be BD (before Declan).
