Watching the sun go down. . . .

Some interesting pics from last night from around here:

Polly and Abby watch the valley under a setting sun. I used a flash to fill in the shadows . . .

Keeper checks out the valley from our deck while Polly lazes in the sun.

There is a mother badger and her babies pretty close but the fence should keep them out . . . . but we have to watch Polly close and keep her near the house. She's never unescorted. Badgers would love to find her.

My wife Carol came across the badgers yesterday. The mom ran straight at her car and stopped three feet in front of it while the two kits ran the other way and went into the tall grass of the ditch.

Actually, there are babies everywhere . . . . I had to slam on the brakes last evening to avoid running over a flood of little birdies - starlings I think - ambling along our country road and then later in the same evening, I almost annihilated some baby prairie chickens on the road.

You gotta be careful around here!!!

At the Icefields, there's nothing to spend a dime on . . . . so he goes to Florida in the winter and parks a trailer and follows the golf tour around and baseball spring training.

Although his promotion means he probably has to stick around the Icefields through the year now. The price of success.

Well, Wal-Mart, Wendy's, McDonald's, etc are only eight minutes away from these pictures if you need a little civilization!! You can even get a pizza delivered to our place.

Calgary, a city of one million, is just over Keeper's shoulder and the hill behind her, about 20 minutes away. Its not the total boonies even if it looks that way. But we sit out on the deck and watch the world revolve summer, winter, spring and fall, almost regardless of temperature and weather.

I see you're from Brooklyn. I liked New York City though when we were there a couple of years ago. We stayed at the Mayflower on Central Park West and walked to Times Square and I went jogging a few times through Central Park across the street. Its an exciting place.

But a different place than here.

Heh heh. I lived in Whistler for a year and I never partied. I'm not that kind of girl. I went there to get better at snowboarding only. Every penny since I was 16 went to my snowboarding or my car to get to the hill (every parent's dream-- to know exactly where their kids are spending their money). At least the drugs aren't as bad in Banff as in Whistler, so you know he wasn't up to terrible things.

Maybe Banff National Park has biologists on staff...

Yes I can see that. It's nice to be around civilization and still have such a beautiful view. I love the city here... however, I sometimes wish for a nice view (of something other than buildings) and some peace and quiet!
