Kittens and puppies - to cats and dogs

Just curious here,

Is there an official or recognized age in months when kittens become cats.

What about puppies to dogs?

My cat is 10 and I still call her kitten..

Thank you

B6

Ummm, she's a senior now!! LOL My cat is 10 as well, although she ACTS like a kitten, she certainly isn't chronologically! I believe, and please correct me anyone if I'm wrong, that at age 2 they become "cats" and "dogs". I don't know for sure, but its around there that they need to be fed adult food.

Not sure about cats so much...

With dogs, it would depend a: on the breed and b: on how you define "adult." If it's sexual maturity (ability to reproduce), then about 6 months for both cats & dogs. If it's full size and mental maturity - well little dogs are pretty much done growing by the time they're a year old. Big dogs can mature very slowly & not really be physically & mentally mature for 3+ years.

Interesting question!

kittens & puppies to cats & dogs

I don't know about the 'official' age of when a puppy becomes a dog but my dog Shadow (now deceased) was 18 years old and I still called her puppy. People would laugh when they asked me the age of my 'puppy' and I replied 18 years old.

Carina is right about dog's mental maturity... Chocolate turn 3 in late December & only these last couple of months I've noticed a growing change in him... he doesn't jump up as much, no barking/excited rampage as he used to earlier... ( ... ) LOL.

he's more of the "stop annoying me, I dont u jumping on my back anymore" than Honey is... hehehe.

FINALLY, he's getting what he deserves after the years I've put up with him... lolololol.

that boy was COnstant attention, now he's relaxing.

sometimes it even scares me & I think he's getting old ...

from a the ULTRA Hyper Pointer, he's now transforming into the Aristocratic Pointing Pointer. lol.

but don't get me wrong, like everyone else, he's still shows his childhood roots every now and again...

As a cat breeder who show in TICA, the kitten class is up to eight months. After eight months it is then considered an adult cat. I don't believe there is any definite line anywhere, but I thought that may help you, lol. Don't know beans about dogs, though.....
