Anyone know a good Montreal trainer?
I am looking for a good trainer in Montreal, the last one I saw wanted to throw a chain at my dog at which point I turned around and never went back . I need someone experienced with on-leash aggression, who can deal with it in a positive way. I will also be looking for an advanced group lesson when I feel she is ready. Other than her leash manners she is a very well trained dog, and not aggressive in other situations, just when she is on-leash and sees another dog on the way to the park (on the way back she is usually better as she is tired out). If anyone knows a good trainer in Montreal for this please let me know!

Thanks for the info technodoll. I just gave her a call and she said that she has the same problem with her dog and that the only thing she finds that works is distracting her dog with a treat or toy before the aggression starts. She says once the aggression starts there isn't much you can do so you have to be aware of other dogs and distract before they are spotted by your dog. She says on-leash aggression is usually about fear-aggression as they can't run away if they need to, therefore they attack. Too bad, I have been having this problem for quite a while now and keep trying to figure out a way to overcome it, it makes walking her somewhat difficult at times
That being said I would still like to know of any good more advanced training classes. She knows her basic obedience but it would be fun to get into more advanced tricks etc. Anyone know of a good group lesson like this? |

hmmm, never heard of them before... and nope you can't mention where you went previously as it's slanderish.
I looked up the one you were going to next... kind of looks like it's going to be similar to the one you were just at but that's just a feeling I get from the website. Have you considered trying Larry Langiel in Hudson. He has a pretty good reputation and I've heard he works wonders in a matter of minutes. He's firm but not rough. Just a suggestion.

Yeah I don't see anything on "positive reinforcement" on their web site, but don't see otherwise either. The evaluation is free so I guess I will ask then. I have phoned and emailed a few other places but so far have only got in contact with two. I just googled Larry Langiel but found nothing on him, is he with another company? Do you have any contact info for him?

I'll pm you his information. He owns Tri-L kennels in Hudson, on Harwood.. on the way to where you took Rosie.
http://www3.sympatico.ca/hound.dogge/sorepaws/tri_l.htm Never mind, he has a website now! The way I spelt his name is how you pronounce it but boy is it spelled differently.

Like every other 450 number I've tried tonight I can't get through. Must be long distance and I don't have long distance on my phone and am out of time on my calling card. I will pick up a card and call tomorrow though, he definitely looks certified! I really don't want to end up with another nightmare trainer and can't seem to find anyone who looks good in the yellowpages. Thanks for the suggestion!

Trainer in Montreal.
I have a great trainer and she is in Montreal. She has beginners classes as well as advanced.
If you want I can pm you her number. I was having a lot of problems with one of my dogs. She had leash aggression and would lunge at dogs as they approached. She also began showing aggression with me. I have been to another trainer in Montreal and it was disastrous. I had all but given up until I met the one I have now. If you want I can pm you her number. |

No Help sorry but have a question
Hello
Have any of you heard of Bark Busters and if so are they good or bad? |

I have. I've used them. I have had some success, but I don't have anything to compare them to. They may not use only positive rein. methods, but I never had success with only cookies, so I don't have a comparison.
