Aurora Police Chase Bear Up Tree, Now Cornered

I think the bear is still up the tree

http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_35051.aspx

It was a bizarre call for officers in Aurora Wednesday morning.

It wasn't a burglar or a bandit - it was a bear that brought police out to the Yonge St. and Wellington St. area around 6am on Wednesday.

"What happened this morning was that a citizen called in and said they saw a bear in their backyard," explained Inspector Bruce West.

"Various officers were deployed and we tried to contain it as best we can. One of the officers actually chased it towards a tree. That's where we sit right now."

The beast can be seen in the highlighted portion of the picture above.

The Ministry of National Resources is on scene.

CityNews cameraman Bert Dandy is on the scene and will be providing updates via Skype.

Bear continues to take refuge in Aurora tree

Aurora June 03, 2009 09:47 AM

A large crowd has gathered to catch a glimpse of a bear in a tree in Aurora.

The bear took refuge in a tree in the Wells and Wellington streets area.

York Regional Police and animal control officers are working to contain a black bear near Yonge and Wellington streets this morning.

Residents in the area are warned to stay away from the scene as officers work to coax the animal from a tree.

Police on scene said it will be a while before the bear will be brought down

Let's hope they get him down safely (and no one is trigger happy). I hope they relocate instead of euthanize.

Isn't there a wildlife rescue north of you that rescues bears (and other animals of course). I can't remember the name of it, but there was a man who specifically looked after bears.

little bears

I got a few great pics of little black bears this week.
We were driving back from Thunder Bay. I think they were
yearlings, approx. a year and a half old. Looked around
80 lbs. and no mom around.

my mom just returned from my bro's in Timmins, its so common to have bears in the back yards that they keep pie pans by the back door to bang together before they go outside.
