please help!!!!

please help,
i noticed blood on the carpet and kitchen today.
i checked out his butt and it doesn't look like anything is wrong and he still has regular bowel movements(don't know if i spelled that right).
i think he is coughing it up.
it just started today. he also feels warmer than usual. we just moved to canada from texas so do u think that maybe he just has a cold?
there are no warms in it, i checked for that, but i'm worried sick!
he is about 2 years old and a mini-dachshund.
what should i do? i don't want to take him to the vet unless i have to.
please help me.

summer

Oh don't worry, the cost of euthanasia will be cheaper then the treatment.

heading that way

i talked to my fiance and we are going to take him to the vet as soon as he gets home if we can find one open. i was hoping that it was something that would just happen once. he has kept doing it though. i spent some time with him locked in the kitchen(tile so it wouldn't mess up the carpet) but he just sits there looking at me and shaking a little. i baby him of course, and as soon as i leave to go to the bathroom and come back there is more spots of blood!
still he does nothing but sits there when i am in the room so i don't know if he is throwing up or if it is coming out the other end? does anyone know a good way for me to tell before i go to the vet so i can give him more info on the problem?

Didn't u call your own vet?

Where do you live?

If your fiancee isn't home soon go take the dog yourself, why are you waiting?

i don't have a car and am new to the area.
i lived in texas my whole life and now i'm in alberta canada.
i don't know anyone and i don't know the area.
he is leaving work early for me. i've figured out by watching him and it is coming out both ends. i'm looking for a vet that is open right now.
i swear i take good care of my baby, i've just never had a problem like this. i rescued him from someone who was starving and abusing him. had to pay the people to give the poor baby to me. i'm just new at this sort of thing and panicing! i'm getting him there as soon as i can

I think you are wasting valuable time seeking out this site. Open your local phone book and look in the yellow pages for veterinarians. You posted at 4:00 (my time) not sure about your time zone, but western canada is behind my time. most vets in my area are open until at least 5 or 6 and there are emergency numbers listed in their ads.

thanks everyone

my fiance got home as i put in my last reply.
we took him into the vet and they are keeping him overnight.
they couldn't tell me what they thought it was right away because i didn't know enough information. they said they will call me when they open tomorrow to let me know what the problem was and if he needs to stay in longer. i thank those who were kind with there words, i needed it. i was a mess. those who could only put me down for my concerns, u need to learn a little kindness. but thanks anyways.

I'm sure they will do blood tests to find out what's wrong.Did you bring a stool sample with you?

no i didn't, i didn't think to.
like i said, i'm kinda new at this.
i was such a mess i could hardly think of anything. i just freaked out as soon as i saw that my baby was sick. and all i could get from here was that i was horrible for not running him to the vet right away even though i had no way too. plus i don't have much money. i wish i had known. they said that they would observe him and yes they did say stuff about tests. i'll find out in the mourning. i just pray that it isn't anything seriouse.thank u.

What Luba meant was do they have a staff member who stays with the animals overnight.

Yes thats what I meant, is this place staffed 24 hrs when an ill animal is in overnight.

You should verify, to make sure. I know of far too many that aren't and these loving little cats and dogs have died alone, in pain and crying for someone to help them...and nobody is there.

Smile

wow summer, I am still here in Texas and just posted my first problem. I am wondering if I made a mistake. I would think that most of us know that we should instantly "run" to a vet. But sometimes there are circumstances that prevent that or at least make it a last resort. Thought this was a place to possibly find some help or reassurance. I do love my pets as I can tell you do. I sure hope your "pooch" is OK. I will keep checking back. petmom
