Holistic Vet in Toronto Area - recommendations?

Hi everyone - firstly I apologize if I have posted this in the wrong area - I am a newbie so a bit overwhelmed to where I actually post this question.

Can someone recommend a good holistic vet in the GTA / Toronto area. I live in downtown Toronto (harbourfront), but don't mind driving to a good vet.

I am concerned about over vaccinating and micro-chip tumors etc. I am holistic in my own life, and would like to expand the same to my furbaby.

Any suggestions on holistic vets and your experience of utilizing a holistic vet is truly appreciated.

Thanks again.

I don't live in Toronto, but here are some links to lists of holistic vets in Canada that might help:

Hi I am also interested in a Holistic Vet if I find a good recommendation I will pm you or if you do could you do the same. I live near High Park, I do not have a car so I would prefer one downtown or in my area. Or if anyone else has one or one to stay away from could you let me know, Thanks

Thanks Sugarcatmom, Rainbow and my Toronto neighbour Mastifflover.

The lists on the holistic site are unfortunately old - I called around Mastifflover and some of the Dr's on the list had moved. I also spoke to the holistic vet Dr. Buffett - he is not taking anymore new patients (which is a shame as he was doing house calls around Toronto - which meant no travel required Mastifflover).

Let's keep in touch - I will keep doing research on my end for holistic vets in our area too. There is a holistic person above Secord Animal Hospital and one in the East End on O'Connor Street - but I have no background or references on them. I will keep researching and update you also.

For the Toronto area folk - if you could provide your input on holistic vets and your experience/recommendations that would be truly appreciated. If I get insight I will also update the post.

Thanks Rainbow, Sugarcatmom and Mastifflover.

Regards, Junosmom

I live about 5 minutes from the O'Connor Holistic Vet. Apparently they are excellent - and there is also a "real" vet on staff. I do not take my guy to this clinic - we have been patients at a different vet for 25 years. But, I was happy to learn that the O'Connor practice has a regular vet, just in case I should have an emergency of the 5 minute variety and have to run to a vet fast. Our vet is a 20 minute drive. A few people in the area love the O'Connor Holistic vet and I have seen it mentioned on pets.ca in the past with good reviews.

Thanks Snowdancer - I called their office a few weeks ago. I did some research and I noticed "mixed reviews" however, this was my "fall back place" if I didn't get any recommendations/insight/experience from others.

Much appreciated.

I would like to incorporate both Allopathic and Alternative methods into my dog's vetenary care so I truly appreciate you getting back.

Holistic vet in toronto?

I, too, am in search of a naturopathic or holistic vet in Toronto for my dog Jack.

He's insanely itchy, his skin is bright pink and he's now suddenly losing his fur. His vet has not been able to figure out what he's allergic to if that's what the problem is. I spent hundreds on an allergy test and it told us nothing. His only solution is steroids scares me and even that has ceased working.

I'm at St Clair & Bathurst but don't have a car so would prefer something local. There is always the bus if that is not an option. Thanks lots.

Judith

@naturaldog

If your pet is still itchy you might want to give him a baking soda bath each week. It really does help for my shihzhu who has yeast effecting on the skin and ears. It stops the smell and itch, but you do have to keep up bathing him every week in the solution. Keep the solution away from the eyes but use a cloth to wipe his face.

I wish I known of this remedy for him much earlier in his life.

Cheers,
Di
