Designers- Louis Vuitton, Prada.. your opinion

This thread was inspiried by my sister who just got 3 louis vuitton bags. To those who do not know who LV is.. its a designer who is well known for his purses, jessica simpson usually wears his bags on tv...

my point of this thread is do you think that a 1,000 bag is worth it ? why are we so obessed with expensive things ?! i know that its about owning something you know not a lot of people have... do you think that materialistic people are ignorant/ snobs ?!

my view is that i don't think i would ever pay that much for a bag, but when my sister let me borrow one, i was so happy... i don't think of myself as a materistic person, but when i saw it... it was like looking at a 100,000 sports car!!!

Well, I think we all have our little weaknesses. If these folks have the money to spend on designer bags and clothes, and it makes them happy, then more power to 'em (of course it would be nice if they'd use some of that cash to help others, too)! Are they ignorant or snobs? No - they're just human!

i agree...i guess if you need something then you will shop around look for Quality first off then decide...when i kick the bucket i dont think i'll be taking any of these materialistic items with me....Life is far to short and precious, take the time smell the flowers!!! Live life that makes you happy not what others define happyness for you...they are living for themselves!

I wonder about this ALL THE TIME!!! I honestly don't understand it at all, especially the bags! The bag I carry is corduroy (sp?) and I bought it for the equivalent of $10!!! I feel like I'm splurging on clothes lately, spending more than $40 for a pair of pants, and the only reason I spend that much is that I've realized the really cheap ones fall apart so quickly they cost more in the end... Personally, I will NOT buy into a brand name, but it isn't that I judge those who do. I literally can't understand them, that's all!!! In my opinion, there are sooo many better things to spend money on such as travel, helping others, my dog, great food! A bag???? Never!

i think some of the purses and bags are... the other ones are nice.. like the wallets... i LOVE guess.... its not too expensive.. and you can wallets ( Winners) or purses on sale!!!!

and don't we all love sales...

I have a wonderful soft old leather bag,I think I paid $100 for it,but the older it gets the more I like it......leather is like wine,the older it gets....oops,that was supposed to be women,according to hubby
I have never bought anything because of a label but since I like natural materials,like cotton,wool,linen and yes,leather it still gets a little pricey,but I hate shopping,so it does not happen very often

My answer to your question is no. I don't even know of the designer that you all are referring to.... I can just hear all the gasps!!
The way I see it... you should buy/wear what makes YOU feel good and if that's a purdy $10 bag or a granny bag for $1000, so be it.

Oh, I get it! Are they worth the $1000 in terms of materials, labour, etc...? No! Definitely not! The materials and the labour of putting the things together might be a couple hundred bucks, so the rest is just for the design of the piece. That's a heck of an hourly rate M. Vuitton is charging for his talents! I still say though, if that's what makes you truly happy (not just THINK you're happy), then by all means dish out the cash!

Some of the purses have nice material, but wouldn't hold much or would hold too much. I definately wouldn't pay that much for a bag. It might last a long time but for fashion who would keep them that long.

I guess whatever is your thing! I won't pay $100 for a bag, but won't hesitate to plunk out $250 for a little plastic toy railroad car that cost $2.95 in the early 1950's.

I wouldnt pay that much for a purse either,but the people i seem to date have a thing for purses,so i'll take it if they want to give it...Well if i was rich i would pay that much,but i'm not,so Target is my store.

heidi WTF, you get stuff of men on dates? oh wow aussie men suck sometimes (not all i do understand some are really good), dating is not so popular here, most men ask you out for a beer not a meal (but some do believe beer is food hmmmm) and they dont bring you anything. and if you are lucky to get a city slicker well they will take you out for dinner or a fancy pub, but out here the nearest a man comes to romantic dating is a steak and beer at the pub or the local bachelor and spinster ball, B and S.
my first date (one of 3 and most girls i know have never been on proper date, although we go out with lots of men but not date them)sorry my first date was when i was 15yrs old and the boy took me to the drag races at the speedway, oh wow, i was not impressed, i had seen so many american movies, i was so disapointed. you lucky girls, oh some aussie girls need to become a little more high maintance i reckon.

anyway the thread, i would never pay that much for anything. i refuse to be materialistic and i believe nothing that is worn etc is worth that much, if it was shelter yes i would consider it, but bag no.

i come from poor ppl, my hubby the opposite and city slickers. often his sisters are absolutly shocked at where i buy my cloths from, i had one of them actually say 'can you really buy cloths out there?' (they are from sydney, the self obsessed city). i love secound hand shops and esp kmart and target, great cloths at a really good price, and the quality is just as good, kmart cloths last me as long as any designers products and if they happen to tear or fade i am not upset as it was only $10 item..im also rough nut and ruin most things jumping fences and what not, so fancy does not suit me.

but i understand the price, these designers are the elite of their field and for that they are rewarded. i wish i had such talent

I wish,my last boyfriend actually we met 3 weeks before my b-day,he flew me to vegas,limo waiting at airport,he is a vip there so when we checked in it was in the platinum check in room,champane & huge shrimp waiting for me in my room,with a card from the host,it was the most excting thing i have ever experienced,turned out to be the meanest italian guy i have ever met,but it was soooo fun................

all i'm saying is that people are greedy.. i personally think its in our nature..

if its not... then look at your own life... all you need is a roof over your head, clothes on your back, food and water to live!!

so, why do you have a computer- do you NEED it to survive ?!
