RIP Smoke

Yesterday I made a terriable discovery, Smoke had finally came home after being gone for 2 months and he was injured. He had a large scab on his right leg that was filled with gravel and upon closer inspection the scab had torn back reveling muscle and a large amount of green puss. I brought him into the house and started cleaning him up the best I could, and I grabbed my keys and rushed to the hospital. They said the wound was to large and the infection had spread to far and the best thing to do was to do was say goodbye.

I feel so horriable about this, like Im a pour caregiver. I also know in my heart that he loved us so much that he found the strength inside himself to come home in his time of need.

Ive missed him so much these past two months and my heart was starting to already believe he was gone forever. And then I heard him cry outside the door and I was overjoyed that he was home. And now I cry again because this time he wont be.

He was such a good boy and I swear he thought we was a dog. He would eat with the the dogs, sleep with the dogs and roll over for belly rubs. He was also the master at escape, out windows, between the legs when you opened the door. I have had to replace to many screens to count.

He was my foster and than became a member of the family when we were unable to place him. This has been very hard on all of us and we know he is in a better place and no longer in pain.
