needs some help

My husband and I are looking into get a dog. our prev one died over a month ago. There are a few that we are looking at. The first is norweigian elkhound/ border collie, the second is blue heeler/Border collie and the 3rd is pyraneese/collie. I currently have 3 cats in the house 1 of my cats loved my last dog. i think the cat thinks he is a dog sometimes the other 2 always stayed out of the dogs way. But of these 3 dogs, i am trying to figure out which would be best in a house with cats. the dogs are puppies and also looking for a dog that will be good with people. any suggestions would be great! thanks!

I'd say the best with cats would be the Pyr/Collie mix. ACDs (the blue heeler) are generally not good with cats. I've hear Norwegians can go either way, I've met only two, one was not good with cats the other was unknown. I was talking to a woman who's sister breeds them and she says they are usually good with them. As for Border Collies, you might have to worry about herding but many are very good with cats, you see them on farms with barn cats running about all the time. But what else do you want in a dog? Pyrs can be difficult to train because they are very independent minded, all the dogs you listed need a lot of exercise. Pyrs and Collies shed A LOT. So other than good with people and cats what do you want? Also talk to the rescue you are getting from, they should have temperament tested her, most will check how they are with cats and what their overall temperament is like. You didn't really say if you were getting the puppy from. I don't know squat about all those breeds, maybe you could ask to bring the first dog of your choice home on a trial to ensure that everyone will live together well. Maybe a week to test the waters. Not sure if they will go for it, if they are trying to sell a litter chances are they will want all the pups there for veiwing, but it couldn't hurt to ask. I hope someone who knows more about the breeds comes along and gives you better infeed on the personality of these types of dogs.
