So she's on Prednisone right now ? I you will see some results and the Lukka will be more comfortable , poor doggy  I second your choices of treatment why should she get a biopsy right now , when you can start with an x-ray. Good luck !

Yes, started this morning when we returned from the vet office. 15mg. twice daily. So total daily dose is 30mg.
I don't want him to have to boost up the dosage, so lets hope we get some change in her on this level.

I really hope that Lukka gets better with the pred. Will she have to be on it long term, or will the condition clear up eventually and she can wean off the steroids?

Good luck!!!

Apparently this condition will never be able to be cured, however with the Prednisone it can be managed. Not sure if she will need to take it daily for the rest of her life, or just whenever she has a flare up of the symptoms. Everything seems to be a wait and see kind of thing.

I hope the prednisone works for Lukka. So, that means that MM is an auto-immune disease? Hopefully, since you caught it early, she won't have many flare-ups.

Good luck, hope the Pred works for Lukka. The sooner she is on it, the sooner it can be controlled.

I hope the prednisone does its work and Lukka improves quickly! 30 mg/day? That's a big dose so you should see results soon

Hang in there and keep us posted...and both of you feel better soon! That's an order!

Chico she tries so hard to keep me cheered up, comes over to comfort me when I get really down from watching her deal with the pain.
It hurts her to open her mouth more than an inch or so, but she can easily get her kibbles in, I soften them for her too so she doesn't have to do too much chewing.
She will still run and play with us and loves her walks, only down side to that is when she gets excited she yawns, I think lots of dogs do, but she can't open her mouth to yawn, so instead she cries in pain.

Thanks hazel. I really hope we see quite a change in the very near future. We caught this disease so early on that it can't have too much of a hold on her yet:

To everyone who has posted in this thread. I thank you all and I will pass along all the good vibes and well wishes to my Lukka.

s to Lukka and her mom. With all the positive vibes coming your way, you've got only one option - get better quickly and get this thing under control. No other option available - none.

Have you thought about going to Guelph to the veterinary college. They area always interested in difficult cases for study, if you haven't been there:

hurts her to open her mouth more than an inch or so, but she can easily get her kibbles in, I soften them for her too so she doesn't have to do too much chewing.
I'd home cook for her and puree the foods so that she can lick it. The dog food is garbage (sorry to say I know you love her so) and she could use nourishment now. Everything in the dog food is 'dead' there is nothing living in there to help rebuild cell growth.

I'd boil some chicken and vegetables and mash them. Try one veg first. IF there are bowel troubles add a teaspoon of olive oil to the meal. Feeding smaller meals several times a day will be good choice, especially with all the pain and swelling. For carbs I would stay away from pasta right now and maybe offer either some rice or cook some 'Red river' (flax) cereal and mix it with the chicken and veggies. I really hope everything goes okay.

I can tell you I personally am being investigated for autoimmune reaction and have had whole body swelling since August including my face and lips. It is VERY painful. I believe mine was triggered by an antibiotic allergic systemic reaction. It took a few months for it to come full force so maybe you can think back to what was going on before this happened.

Oh and by the way I am nearly at 30 doctors since August so don't lose hope, I know how hard it is. If you get the referral to Guelph Neurology atleast you have a foot in the door there and the neurologist will do their best to evaluate and refer to the appropriate dept if not theirs.

OK, so the vet just called. He gave her an anaesthetic and had a good look in her mouth and throat. He say's it appears to be a chemical burn on the back of her mouth and slightly down her throat on one side
I got that from another thread, the one when the drooling started.

I just wanted to let you know that I have the same thing, my lips, cheeks and throat.

Wonder what blood work was done on your dog...? There are specific rheumatoid factors they do testing for antibodies that can be present with disease of the tissue. I would also have the vet check liver and pancreatic enzymes as well as kidney function. However the longer on prednisone these results can be altered.

I bounce back and forth from hopeful to a feeling of losing all hope. Trying not to delve too deeply in the wallowing though. Day three of the prednisone today, should start to see something in the next day or so.
