Newt & kittens

Hello everyone - I've posted under the general forum about my current experience (and quasi-predicament) having adopted a stray which turned out to be pregnant.

I thought I'd post a few pics of them here... here are a few of Mommy Newt:

I'm not that familiar with cat breeds - any help with identifying what type of cat she is would be appreciated

Newt is beautiful!! And her kittens...just adorable!! That picture of the kitten looking in the mirror is too precious for words!

I did post on your first threat that she looks part Siamese. I know of two black cats that had kittens and one kitten looked a a pure breed Siamese kitten. The male and female cat where black.

Hi:

I was just looking at Mommy Newt and was wondering if maybe she would be a Bombay cat. It is hard to tell with the photos that are at hand. The Bombay cat is a solid black cat with short black hair no other colors and very shiny. The eyes are yellow to a shiny copper color and are quite distinctive. They are of a sweet disposition and somewhat mellow. I find the cameras do not do justice to cats eyes which doesn't help the matter in trying to identify the cat. I notice she is carrying a white blaze on the chest that means she's not purebred. If I were you I would be doing some further investigating on the Internet. If it is a Bombay cat they have a very pleasant personality and make an excellent indoor cat.

Mommy Newt is a very pleasant looking cat. She looks quite content in the pictures, and she gives the appearance of being knowledgeable. I think she'd make a very pleasant companion animal, and her offspring are really something else, and they're going to be hard to part with when the time comes.

you could be right according to this utube. Bombay cats are part Burmese cat . This utube shows a Bombay cat being walked on a leash , so if the OP cat is one she can train it to take walks using a leash.

I was thinking she was some type of a Bombay/Burmese mix myself - she's a very small (slim) cat. And yes, she does have a small tuft of white below her neck. In addition, she also has a large patch of white fur on her underside.

Apart from that, although she looks pure black otherwise, I've noticed she has what looks to me like a striped tabby pattern underneath her fur, if that makes sense. Under the right lighting (like when using a strong camera flash), it's quite apparent. I'll have to try and get a pic of that.

I enjoy trying to figure out what breeds makes up different animals. But in the long run the thing that means the most is its health and good personality.

Newt appears as if she could be strong willed, which could pose some interesting times. With a little TLC and understanding she should make an excellent companion. I think once things settle down you be quite happy with her.

She is gorgeous! I can't stop looking at her. I am so glad you found her. What are the kittens names?

Gah! Now I wants them all! They're utterly adorable, and I do not envy you having to adopt them out. I about had heart failure when i saw the little black one with the blue eyes looking so serious out of the drawer.

I know, eh. I just bawl when I have to say goodbye to one of my fosters . I do try to think that I have done my part to help these kitties to go on to the rest of their lives.

The kittens are exactly 5 weeks old today

No names for the kittens yet (haven't checked for gender), although I've temporarily named the black one Baby Newt after her mom - she is by far the most active, vocal, mischievous, and demanding kitten of the 3. Long after the other two have have taken a break from playing, baby Newt will still be darting around all over the place, attacking her mom's tail, asking to be fed, and just generally being a handful. An adorable cat with a lot of spunk and personality if you can keep up with him/her.

The other two kittens are playful as well, but a little more mellow. I might keep one around to keep mom company (if she decides to stick around), but otherwise, I think it would really be wonderful if the kittens could all be adopted together, as it would be a little sad to see them parted.

That would be really great if you could find someone to take all 3 kittens. Do you have a cat recuse shelter near you, maybe they'll let you put up a photo of the kittens and you could say you want to keep them together.

I agree, having 1 cat all alone is no fun. If my pair didn't have each other I dont know what they would do. Sometimes they play fight, but if we go out and leave one without the other, it starts crying. Mine were very young when we got them, and they had already been through at least 2 homes, so I think they have an unnatural fear of abandonment!

Photo update - Kittens are just a couple of days shy of 9 weeks. I figure the more pictures I have, the easier it should be to find a home from them in a couple weeks' time

Don't let this pic fool you, this kitty is the biggest troublemaker of the bunch!
